Artist-Made Dichroic Glass Pendants
Dichroic glass - (pronounced "die - crow - ick" The rich colours, the sparkle, the rainbow patterns. This speciality glass is truly wonderful. Dichroic glass is a spin-off from the space race, and was part of an attempt to find a coating that would reflect heat from glass. Someone got their hands on it and thought it was pretty, and the next thing you know - people were making it into all sorts of things. The coating is applied to the glass at high-temperatures in a vacuum chamber while being spun at high speed. To make pendants such as these - mulitple layers of glass are cut, stacked, and fused at high temperatures. Accuracy in the cutting and cleanliness in handling the glass are of utmost importance. The dichroic coating can be "burned" and turned into an ugly grey scum if not worked correctly. In addition, the dichroic glass is significantly expensive.
These are high-quality artist-made pendants, made by a local glass worker. We are very impressed with her work and we are pleased to be able to offer it here.
