Findings — Glorious Gold — The Treasure of Kings: Real Gold — Vermeil, Gold-filled.

What are findings? Findings are all those bits and pieces necessary to actually making your jewelry - crimps, wire, clasps, etc. Traditionally - they were made with the left over pieces of metal - the "findings" from the jewellers' bench.

What is gold-filled? Gold-filled is a layer of karat gold bonded to a metal core (often brass). Gold-filled has more gold than gold plate and is usually more resistant to wearing and discolouring. Gold-plated is a very thin layer of gold (and we keep it here, as it is usually plated over base metals ). Vermeil (pronounced "ver-MAY") is gold over sterling silver. Use for a neat finish on a strand of beads and to attach to a clasp. Tie a knot around a small bead, thread through tip and continue to string. Finish with bead tip and another knotted bead (making a knot big enough to not pull through the hole can be tricky with the smaller threads. Works with the silk though.
