Rhodonite is an opaque, pink stone with a black matrix, The black matrix running throughout the stone is black manganese oxide. Rhodonite gets its name from the Greek word "Rhodos" meaning "Rose."

Tthe rarer Rhodochrosite has strong patterns and more drama. The Inca's believed that Rhodochrosite was the blood of their former rulers, turned to stone.
