As a mom to two young girls (4 and 2) — and the owner of beadFX — my time at the torch is short. Very short. I prefer to spend that time making beads for fun, which means exploring new techniques, new tools, and new glass colours and combinations. So, after much agonizing, I've decided to no longer offer production beads. Beads are occasionally available in the store for sale.
For those of you who are new here, a little about me.
About 8 years ago, I started beadFX selling on eBay while working as a Sysadmin (computer geek) for a securities firm. Around the same time I also discovered lampwork beads. I had picked up Cindy Jenkins "Making Glass Beads", and was completely enthralled. I immediately ordered a basic bead making kit from Arrow Springs and anxiously awaited delivery. My first beads were sad?pathetic actually :-), but it didn't matter. I was hooked, thoroughly and completely. Six months later I took a class with Lezlie Winemaker. Everything started to click around this point. My beads actually looked like beads, and I knew I'd finally found an art form that I was truly passionate about.
beadFX had just opened it's warehouse space as the website business had long outgrown my second bedroom. I now had over 1000 square feet to work with! (It seemed big then - but now it seems tiny!) I set up an oxygen/gas torch in the back of the warehouse, rented out torch space, sold beads, built a website, guess what - and I'm still here — exploring and creating and obsessing over beads. beadFX has come a long way from selling a few beads on eBay! We are now a team of bead-addicted, -obsessed, and -obsessive folks living in much larger quarters than our cozy early days.
