Magazines and Periodicals

Every month - actually, almost every week now - fresh new inspirations to drool over! No well stocked bathroom, er, bead library is complete without a dangerously tall stack of magazines for reference, learning, inspiration and swatting flies if you are at the cottage! If you are part of the D-I-Y culture — you can teach yourself everything you need from books and magazines.

Most of the magazines contain a section of "basics" that cover the techniques referenced else where in the magazine. Each has it's own flavour. Beadwork is excellent for practical projects that you can actually finish! Bead & Button is great and has fabulous stuff, but some of the projects are a little overwhelming for the novice beader — doesn't mean you shouldn't look at them though! beads etc . . . — an Australian magazine — is beautifully illustrated — the most gorgeous photos out there. Embroidery, Beading & Cross-Stitch reminds us that there are other ways to use beads than just jewellery. Belle Armoire soothes the soul and reminds us that it isn't all just a nasty rat-race out there — there is a place for extraordinary beauty as well. Lapidary Journal and Jewelry Arts — the granddaddy of these publications — has been around for years and is re-inventing itself again to cover more topics. You get a little of everything here. BeadSTYLE always has something you gotta try, and Art Jewelry goes beyond beads. Step by Step is what it's name suggests!
