The Lampworking Studio at beadFX
We are not just a bead store — although we are a pretty awesome bead store, if we do say so ourselves! We are also a lampworking studio where we actually make glass beads - and teach it too! In a nutshell, lampworking, (or torchworking or flameworking or wound glass) is the term for hand-making glass beads by winding molten glass onto a stainless steel rod, one fabulous colour at a time, and then slowly cooling the beads to room temperature. This ancient way of making glass beads is thousands of years old, and is truly an awesome experience, to do or see.
We have a number of classes to get you started or to advance your skills.
We also rent studio time - more information here.
We do not keep a large inventory of tools and glass in the store, (we don't have the space) - but below we list items we can get quickly and ship to you with a week or so.
We have a number of talented artists who work in our studio space, and sell in our store. Because of the one of a kind nature of these items, we do not list them on the website — although we do plan to offer some limited edition items soon.
At this point in time, Dwyn Tomlinson does have some of her one-of-a-kind beads for sale separately from the beadFX regular inventory, as they are unique and non-reproducible, but but they can be shipped free with your beadFX order! (Just let her know when you order them that you have a beadFX order in as well, and the two orders will be combined.)
