Thread

Beadweaving or stringing thread. Thread for the delicate projects and small hole beads. Projects that use bead weaving techniques, such as peyote or brick stitch, that pass through the bead mulitple times, require a fine but strong thread. Here are some excellent choices. Mostly the difference is a matter of personal preference.

Nymo™

Stretch the thread

and smooth it over a warm lightbulb

Nymo thread - the benchmark for beadweaving projects. This soft, supple, strong thread is fine enough to pass four times through a size 11/0 seed bead. To use it, stretch it well and "iron" over a warm lightbulb. Available in classic black, white, and a variety of colours. (Note, match the thread color to the lightest bead colour in your work if using multiple colours.)

Nymo B has 72 yards per bobbin, and Nymo D has 64 yards per bobbin. To select a needle, the higher the number the smaller the needle (length will vary). Our 13 and 16 needles are a nice 2 in" length and both will work with either the B or the D. The O and OO are finer still than the B and the D.

Superlon™

Available in a wide range of colours (36) and 2 sizes, D and AA (The AA is finer), this is a parallel fiber (non-twisted) thread like Nymo, but stronger, more like PowerPro. It will fit a #12 needle. Try this for your beadweaving projects: gourd stitch, loomwork, netting, right-angle weave, etc. Very little stretch. 78 yards on a bobbin, or about 71 meters.

Sono Thread™ - New from Japan

This new thread from Japan has been made to the specification of Sonoko Nozue and is said to be very strong, durable and split- and fray-resistant. We're told that it is tangle-resistant too - but that sounds like a miracle to us!

Conso Thread™

Some of our regulars took a class that called for this thread, and now they can't get enough of it. This is a nice heavy thread, string larger hole beads on it, not seedbeads, but you can knot between beads to hold them in place. Leave gaps to let the thread show, and be part of the design.
