Four Strand Cord Making

Course Outline

Woven fiber cords can add texture, colour and depth to jewelry design as well as providing a safe alternative for those with sensitivity to metals.

Not restricted to fiber alone, this four strand cord making technique can be used with seed beads, leather, rat-tail, C-lon, and yarns, in any combinations to create numerous looks from the fashionable to the classic.

Using C-lon alone will produce a delicately woven cord resembling a fine metal chain and in contrast, leather and yarn woven together produce a cord with depth and texture.  Seed beads alone are stunning.

This class will teach the cord weaving technique and how to finish the cord ends with and without metal findings.

During the class, students will make three cords of their choice. Materials available for use will include C-lon, rat-tail, leather, silk, cotton, wool, synthetic and woven yarns.  This is a chance to raid the instructor’s stash.

Please feel free to bring pendants and beads to assist with coordinating colours and textures.

Supplies: Kits for all projects available for purchase at $20 (+ tax). Course kit includes printed colour instructions, all materials, and findings.

Instructor Bio:

Angela studied Chinese knotting while living in Hong Kong.  In that energized environment, surrounded by exceptional knotted art she found her passion and saw the endless possibilities for weaving traditional fiber and stone into bold contemporary jewelry. Angela continues to explore new and traditional fiber techniques and how they relate to jewelry design

Angela has recently relocated to Toronto from Mexico where she showed in both local and state shows.
