Basic Stitching Techniques 101

Instructor: Cindy Vroom

pey bl and gold cindy

Course Outline:

This is a four week class that will focus on some basic stitching techniques,
Peyote, Netting, Right Angle Weave and Herringbone Stitch. Each week
will focus on a different technique. These are not project based classes, so
each week you will make a very basic piece designed to learn the technique only.

Here is an opportunity to expand your repetoire of beading techniques, gain inspiration from a variety of examples, and let your imagination show you were you can go with these techniques.

Week One:  Peyote. This is the classic introductory stitch which will introduce the novice beader to beadweaving with needle and thread, one bead at a time to make a beaded fabric.

Week Two:  Netting. This stitch introduces more than one bead at a time to make a lovely open weave fabric with beautiful drape.

Week Three:  Right Angle Weave. This stitch introduces the novice beadweaver to the intricacies of beadweaving by becoming aware of the threadpath, to make a durable yet supple bead fabric.

Week Four:  Herringbone. This stitch also adds to the complexity of beadweaving. Here the thread path is important and multiple bead are added at a time. The fabric has a distinct herringbone appearance and lovely drape.

Instructor: Cindy has been avidly beading for somewhere around 10 years now. Beads and beading are a fascination and a compulsion for her as both her impressive bead stash and portfolio of finished works can attest. She is happiest when her hands are busy and can think of no better activity than beading to fulfill this need. She also plays with clay between beading and making her living as a set painter/house painter.
