Course Outline

Create delicate ginkgo leaves with brick stitch using Miyuki Delica beads for this lariat-style necklace. These ruffling fan shapes can be arranged in a variety of ways and made in different sizes. A focus of this class will be learning several techniques to blend colors. This perennial favorite class has filled at every Bead & Button Show for the last decade.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Some seed beading experience preferred.

Price: $150 + (HST), deposit or payment in advance required

Kit Fee: No Kit Fee. Students are required to bring their own beads from home.See Supplies list below.

All required beads and supplies are available for purchase at Beadfx.

Supply List:

- Size 11 cylinder beads (delicas), 5 gr of 3 – 5 blending or gradating colours for gingko leaves
- Size 11 seed beads (Czech/Toho), 5 gr, one or more colors, beads may contrast or blend with cylinder  beads
- Nymo D thread
- Size 10 or 12 beading needles
- Size 15 seed beads, 25 gr, background or neutral color for the cord
- 2mm Rattail Satin Cord, 1 yard

Need to Bring: If you normally require reading or magnifying glasses for detailed/close-up work, it is recommended that you bring it in for this class.

This is a full day class, please bring a lunch. Coffee, tea, pop are provided.

Instructor Bio:

Patterns, design and color fascinate Diane and for her beads are the perfect medium to express this fascination. Since 1989, Diane has taught a wide range of bead classes across the U.S. and internationally including South Africa, Germany, England and Japan. All of this comes together for her in writing about beads. She is the author of ten books, including her most recent book, “Shaped Beadwork” and has written numerous magazine articles. Diane is the 2008 recipient of the Bead & Button Show "Excellence in Bead Artistry Award" and her Gingko Leaf Necklace was awarded "Best Use of Color.
