Long and Shaped Beads

There is something tremendously satisfying about making very long beads
- 2 - 3 inches long - and they are a delight to handle. They present a
technical challenge that can be frustrating, however. How do you get
them so long, and still keep them centred? How to you get the ends nice?
and how do you make that bicone shape?  (The standing bead is 2 inches
long, the horizontal bead is 3 inches - these were made on the Minor
Burner torches - the same as we use in the studio.)

This class will answer those questions and more as we explore the long
beads and stretch the envelope to make it longer.

The Instructor:

Students flock to Dwyn Tomlinson's classes - coming from great distances (Brazil, Spain) or just down the street. Her enthusiasm and passion for glass spills over onto the students and gives them permission to delight in the wonder of this new found obsession. Her sense of humor, patience and background in technical writing and adult education serve her well in teaching beginners.

She likes to give students a solid foundation which they can build on so they can realize their own tastes and styles. She is never reticent to share "secrets" of the trade and will demonstrate any bead that she can make - even her "signature" wave beads.
