Lampwork Technique Night Series

This is a series of Lampwork Technique Nights, designed for the lampworker with a little experience who wants to master specific techniques. If you are frustrated with a particular technique, you can take a single class. If you are looking to broaden your repetoire - you can sign up for all the classes. There is a discount if you sign up 4 or more classes in the series at once.

Available Classes are:

• Encased Silver Foil: Learn to encase silver foil without burning it off!
• Goddess Bead: Simple sculptural bead
• Wave Bead: Dwyn's signature bead. Learn how she makes it, and then adapt the technique to your own style.
• Dichro: The dazzle of dichro - get over your fear of this expensive glass
• Buttons: Cute as a button - and cute they are. Learn to make your own buttons.

Lampworking Technique Night - Encased Silver Foil. Those lovely encased silver foil beads - how they glitter and gleam - how they seduce you. Until you try making one yourself, and the foil burns away to nothing!

We will learn and practice encasing with a thin layer of glass, and learn not to burn - burn off the silver foil that is. Find out how to make silver foil look like gold! Plenty of practice time. Silver foil included. $75.00

Instructor: Passionate about lampworking - Dwyn considers playing with hot glass to be an obsession and as addictive as crack cocaine. You have been warned! Lampworking for about five years now, and teaching for nearly three, Dwyn's particular strength is in making large, sculptural beads. Technique Focus: intermediate lampworking techniques: You will learn:

• Encased Silver Foil: Encase silver foil without burning it off, thin encasing, mashing, shaping, silver/colour reactions
• Goddess Bead: sculpting glass, heat control (to not melt down the features just added
• Wave Bead: heat control. Keeping the glass and the bead at the temperature you need.
• Dichro: working dichro to protect and preserve the coating. Encasing for added glitter.
• Buttons: Working off mandrel. Making glass loops.

Skill Level: advanced-beginner to intermediate - see prerequisite

Prerequisite: Students should have some lampworking experience. A previous course at beadFX and/ot at least 10 hours recent torch time is ideal, but we are flexible. Call or email to get more information. Please wear old jeans, closed shoes, long sleeve cotton top and tie back long hair or otherwise dress appropriately.

Time: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Students are welcome to arrive 30 mins early to orient, pick glass, warm up with a practice bead.

Price: $75.00 (+GST), payment in advance required: $40 discount if signing up for 4 or more in the series of Lampwork Technique Nights at once.

Student discount of 15% in store purchases on class nights (books and lampworking supplies not included in discountable items.).

10-hour Studio card available for purchase for $100 (regular $120.00) on the night of the class(es) only. Studio card for $100 if purchased on the day of the class.

Supplies: All Supplies and tools included. All glass is provided. We use Moretti and 104 compatible glass in the class.

You are welcome to bring any favorite tools, such as a stump shaper or your own glasses. Glasses, graphite paddles, basic tools, etc. are included.
