Come for a fun day working with the new CopprClay. Copper metal clay recently released summer 2009, is made of recycled copper particles, binder and water that is shaped and fired in carbon and when finished results in a solid copper piece. Copper metal clay is different in its handling than traditional metal clay.
In this class Heather will teach the basic handling and working techniques for CopperClay, as well as, show and guide you into making a linked copper metal clay bracelet. This is a brief, but NOT comprehensive, introduction to CopperClay. The bracelet project is recomended for people who have some metal clay experience. (For students who have limited experience with metal clay they are welcome in this class but may wish to try other simpler projects that Heather will demonstrate.)
This copper clay needs to be fired in carbon and therefore needs to be kiln fired - firing fees are included in the class fees. Note: Due to the length of time required for firing, it may take up to a week for pieces to be ready for student pick up. ATTENTION - Since scheduling, ART CLAY COPPER, has been released which is a torch fireable version of copper clay. Heather has been working with this clay. Heather will give students and introduction to the pros and cons of each of these clays and students will be given the choice to choose between clays. Students will be provided with either a 100 gram bag of CopprClay or 50 gram bag of Art Clay Copper.
Technique Focus: Metal Clay Skill Level: Beginner Plus. Students should have some metal clay experience. Students wishing to take the class but have no metal clay experience may wish to complete other, simpler pieces that will be demonstrated. Prerequisite: Previous metal clay experience suggested.
Price: $130.00 (+HST) Supplies: Included. Instructor: Creating beautiful art has been a love of Heather's since childhood. Heather’s favorite medium has been molding, shaping and building with clay which led to her discovery of precious metal clay--and she has never looked back! She finds inspiration in forms, texture and nature. She enjoys structural elements and creating movement in her pieces. Her practical personality pushes her to design and make pieces that can be worn in many ways, so that many of her pieces are often reversible or have a dual purpose. Heather loves the flexibility of Art Clay Silver and passionately shares her love of creating and building with this medium. In her previous role as an occupational therapist, Heather loved teaching others ways of doing things differently and helping them achieve their goals. Now as an Art Clay instructor, she uses these teaching skills to help her students create their pieces and to problem solve any design challenges. She creates and teaches in Toronto where she lives with her enthusiastic boys and supportive husband. Heather is a Senior Certified Art Clay Instructor.
