Moving Off-Mandrel

Want to go beyond beads? Are you feeling chained to the mandrel? Considering buttons, pendants, or possibly even small sculpture?

Lucy will explain off-mandrel work - working the glass on punties instead of winding glass on a mandrel. She wil demonstrate, and you will get to practice. You will make a little piece and practice getting it off the punty without leaving a mark. Creating the glass loop (bail) will be next, and finally, a small floral pendant. Students will get to finish at least one pendant, possibly more. This is a hands-on class.

Students need to have experience lampworking. (At least 8 months regular practice or at least 30 hours. You should have a basic understanding of heat control and reading the heat in the glass.) Glass is provided. This class uses soft glass (Moretti, etc.). Torches, glasses, and studio equipment are supplied.

Instructor: Lucy brings an intensive art education to her glassworking. She is passionate about her medium, and is always seeking new ways of understanding. She is a kind and patient teacher and seeks to bring the student to the "aha" moment! Her work has been featured in 1000 Glass Beads.
