Course Outline:

This two day intensive workshop focuses on a minimalist approach to creating individual elements with wide ranging application in jewelry design and assembly.

Using traditional processes of forging, forming, sawing, piercing, and dapping, participants will learn to create repetitive elements as an exercise in skill refinement while building a design vocabulary of forged links and modular components for individual exploration.

Demonstration and instruction by a master goldsmith is followed by participant’s hands-on examination of method and process. Students will create a variety of hammer forged links and repetitive elements to be used as components for modular earrings, bracelets, and necklace assemblies.

Samples will be made in copper and brass, finished models in fine silver.

This is an introductory to intermediate level class. Participants who have not had a previous workshop experience with Michael will have instruction in basic skills with hammer, saw, file, and pliers. Returning students will build on their previous skills and develop further fluency with tool and technique.

Skill Level: Beginner/All Levels
