Course Outline: Forging is one of the oldest, most basic and effective metal forming techniques. An essential skill for goldsmiths and jewelry makers, forging is a transformative process employing simple tools and raw materials to create finished jewelry items directly in metal. In this class, students use hammer, anvil and mandrel under the guidance of a master goldsmith to learn the principles of forging jewelry scale objects. Participants produce classic and creative rings in copper and fine silver and bring new skills as well as a new vocabulary of form and shape to their body of work. In addition to the principles of forging, this course covers the processes of bending ,shaping, filing, forming, work hardening and annealing precious metals. This class is for all levels. No prior jewelry or metalsmithing experience is required.
