Course Outline: This handmade chain, sometimes called crochet, is one of the most beautiful, supple and unique chains a metalsmith can make. In this two day workshop participants will learn to perfect this chain making technique under Michael’s expert guidance. Each student will use a needle and fine silver wire to produce a supple and elegant bracelet or necklace chain, ready for a clasp. The applied technique instruction covers making tools, selecting and preparing materials, the fabrication process, annealing with a kiln, and finishing and refining the chain with a draw plate. Skill Level: Beginner/All Levels. This workshop is process oriented and is suitable for any level student. No previous experience in textiles, metalsmithing or jewelry making of any kind is necessary. Prerequisite: None Price: $320.00(+HST), deposit or payment in advance required Kit Fee: $100 + HST (Approx.) Kit fee payable on the day of the class. The final price of the kit will depend on the market price of silver at the time the supplies are purchased from our supplier. Please stay tuned for updated information. Need to Bring: Students should bring visual aid for clear vision at a distance of 7 inches from tip of the nose; typically an optivisor type device (#5 lens) or reading glasses (300 to 350).
