Course Outline: Learn to create intricate three-dimensional jewelry from a single piece of metal! Watch as award-winning goldsmith, Michael Sturlin demonstrates how to use a saw to transform a sheet of silver into an intricate pendant design with a prong setting for a cabochon with a pierced and carved bail. No soldering is necessary to execute this complex piece of jewelry. The techniques used in this clever project enable students to work with precision and control, as they build skills in layout, measuring, sawing, piercing, filing, fitting, assembly, and stone setting. In this two day workshop, students learn how to adapt these imaginative intersecting sheet structures, held together by tension, to a wide variety of jewelry applications. Practice at piercing and fitting will be done in copper; the finished pendants will be made in fine silver and set with onyx cabochons. This is an introductory to intermediate level class. Participants who have not had a previous workshop experience with Michael will receive instruction in basic use of jewelers saw and files. Returning students will build on their previous skills and develop further fluency with tool and technique. Skill Level: Beginner/All Levels Prerequisite: None Price: $ 320.00 (+HST), deposit or payment in advance required. Kit Fee: $100 + HST (Approx.) Payable on the day of the class. The final price of the kit will depend on the market price of silver at the time the supplies are purchased from our supplier. Please stay tuned for updated information. Need to Bring: For this technique the correct magnification is essential.
