Quick Clasps and Findings Workshop

Course Outline: The distinction of well made clasps and findings is in the design and details; simplicity, beauty, and functionality. This two day applied technique workshop focuses on the aspects of finesse and the finishing touch of creating purposeful hand made findings to complete and compliment your jewelry designs. This class provides an introduction to the basic tools and techniques for making finely finished components directly in metal. Utilizing skills of forging, forming, bending, shaping, filing, sawing, and piercing, students construct samples of clasps, bails, findings, links, attachments and connectors in copper and fine silver. Instruction includes tips on practicality of design, functionality, making multiples, developing and refining the production process, along with useful information on studio organization and bench tips from a master goldsmith.
Skill Level: Beginner Prerequisite: Some understanding of basic metal smithing is an asset but not essential Price: $450.00 (+GST), deposit or payment in advance required Supplies: Kit fee $100.00 (+tax).
This includes all of the wire and specialized goldsmithing hammer, saw blades and rulers. All other tools will be here for student use and are optional for purchasing. The cost of the additional tools are about $100.00. Students should however bring magnification. Need to Bring: This is a full day class, please bring a lunch. Coffee, tea, pop are provided. Michael's internationally acclaimed jewelry focusing on minimalism in precious metal has been published in 75 magazine articles and is featured in the books MASTERS:GOLD and Crocheted Wire Jewelry. Faculty member of the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, and a popular visiting guest artist and conference presenter, Michael devotes his time to sharing his expertise and insight with students at every level from beginners to accomplished professionals.
