Course outline: Building on the introductory lessons learned in “Exploring The World of Altered Dominos I”, this class will take a more creative & painterly approach to altering surfaces, and working with these exciting pigments. We will explore the use of other media (to extend working time), masks, surfaces and tools. Don’t worry, if you think you can’t paint, as the instructor will show many other non-traditional ways to manipulate the inks. Focus will be on creative play, non-traditional surfaces, and incorporating inked surfaces into jewellery or framed art pieces. Finishing options will be discussed. This is a playful, but results oriented workshop!
Skill level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: “Exploring The World of Altered Dominos I” and/or experience with working with alcohol inks
Technique: Mixed media approach to altering both traditional and non-traditional surfaces with alcohol inks
Bring to class: Enthusiasm, a smile, and a sense of humour. Fine point paintbrushes, outline markers or gel pens, alcohol based markers, such as Copic, Prismacolour Premiere, Spectrum Noir or Sharpie (for comparison and experimentation purposes, but only if you have them), pencils, and coloured pencils. Small metal or glass items to be altered, Dominos or other game pieces, as these will not be provided in your kit. Bring gloves and/or baby wipes, if you prefer not to get your hands dirty. Wear a smock, apron or old clothes, as we will be blowing and splattering the inks around; it could get messy!
