Course outline: Plique-à-jour is a style of enamelling that uses a delicate metal framework to support free areas of transparent glass. Because plique-à-jour has no metal backing, it is visually similar to a stained glass window. While this technique is beautiful, it is arguably the most challenging form of enamelling. In this class, students will create fine silver frames for plique-à-jour using metal clay. Multiple approaches to enamel application will be covered.
Skill level: Advanced. Patience and steady hands are required!
Prerequisite: Experience working with art clay silver.
Technique: Designing colourful jewellery or components using fine silver clay and glass enamel.

Art clay silver
Personal Art clay tools (important tools include slats, pin tools, files and sanding foam)

An unused, natural hair brush as tiny as you can find – 000 or smaller. If a small natural hair brush is not available, a small synthetic brush is preferable. I personally like the Dynasty Micron brush line.
