Follow your dreams

Lucky Kimono

September 1st, 2010

Serendipity and Bead Dreams

I've been working on this big Delica update for the past 3 weeks or so. "How big?" you ask - I'm so glad you asked. 157 new Delicas - which is a fraction of what is coming down the pipeline actually - but we can only process them so fast. Still - 157 new colour choices to round out the colour palette is not to be sneezed at - and puts us that much closer to realizing our dream of world domination - or, at least, carrying all the Delica colours. Bwa-ha-ha-ha.

So - when we got an email on Sunday from Darlene A. - with pictures of this exquisite beaded kimono - image how thrilled I was - like the whole world was thinking of Delicas!

She tells me:

I am sending you a couple of images of the' Lucky Kimono' project that I have finally completed using Delica size 11 beads from BEADFX.

The reason for the name is in the Kanji symbol for Luck on the back of the kimono and the symbolism of Bamboo, considered a lucky plant, which grace the front and the back of the kimono.

This kimono is made up of 44,500 beads, from design to completion it was an amazing process. At the end of this I felt torn, satisfied and sad for the process to be over.....so I am planning my next kimono as I sit here and type :)

Isn't that awesome? In addition, Darlene says that she would encourage anyone to pursue their bead dream! So - if you've been thinking about that truly elaborate project, the one that will take you a year, and make you something wonderful you will treasure forever - maybe you should start planning it. Spare time doesn't come along by itself, you know! (Click on the images for a closer view.)

And, new this week - if you are thinking of making something that really requires a lot of Delicas - we have added the Bulk Delica page. If one or two packages just isn't going to do it for you - then you may be interested in our 50 gram bags, at a savings to you, of course. Because, after all, beads don't go bad.

To look for all of our new delicas, start in the seedbead section and scroll down to the Japanese beads.

And if seedbeads are not your thing - because, while they are very versatile and can be used as the main course or as a side dish, so to speak, they may not be what you want - well - how about our stone of the month?

s25163 Stone Beads - 6 mm Round - Blue Tigereye (strand)This month is Blue Tigereye. It is found in many places around the world, including right here in Canada, and the USA, India, and parts of Africa. Blue Tigereye is also known as Hawk's Eye and has that same silky shimmer to it.

Metaphysically - it is said to be very soothing and aids in reducing stress, increasing calm, and easing anxiety.

Remember - the bricks and mortar store is closed on Labour Day, but of course, our online store will be ready and waiting to take your orders!

Have a lovely long weekend - and try not to spend too much time gloating about the kids going back to school. ;-)

So, click on a link above, or just browse a category (Firepolish/Faceted, Pressed Glass, Crystal, Seedbeads, Stone and Pearls, Metal Beads, Other Cool Beads, Findings, Metal Clay & Supplies or Books, Kits, Tools) and look for the New tags!

CLASSY NEWS - GUEST INSTRUCTORS: Every year at beadFX, artists and instructors from far and wide come to teach at our store. For many of us, this is an opportunity to learn from experienced and accomplished jewellery makers that we would otherwise have to travel to big bead shows/conferences to see.
This October 21-24, Beadfx is hosting Michael David Sturlin
. Michael will be teaching two classes, Forged Rings, and Sawing & Piercing.

To see past and upcoming guest instructors, click here! Regular classes still continue at Beadfx. Here's some of what's coming up in next month, or See the full September schedule.
