Call out for Instructors

As we head into the holidays, things start to settle down a little here. We seem to be the opposite of most retailers. We have two busy seasons, one starting in February/March, as all of you jewelry designers start hustling to get your designs made up for your Spring/Summer shows. Then, we’re busy again starting in September, as you all start working on your holiday/Fall shows. At this point, those of you giving handmade gifts have already started making them (or if you’re really good – you’re done!) I don’t fall into that category at all – sigh While we …

Intermediate Art Clay Class

Heather and I taught our first intermediate art clay class this past weekend. Wow, what a huge amount of fun. Sandra and Tina were our first guinea pigs…erm, I mean students. 🙂 We’ll probably rename the class “Rings, and other shiny things” for future classes. We explored resin, fine silver fusing, box building, and a variety of ring projects – from seamless band rings, to embedded shanks, and prong sets. I do have some pics, which I’ll post a bit later today once I’ve had a bit more coffee! The next class will be sometime in February after Heather and …

Sometimes – it’s not what you see that counts.

Bead hole sizes aren’t all the same – and it doesn’t usually make sense to try and match them for a project. Sometimes, you are just going to have some beads that you want to string that just have much larger holes that the other beads around them. If you went to a thicker stringing material, then you maybe couldn’t get the smaller-holed beads strung. Or maybe, as is often the case with lampwork or other art beads – the hole is so large that nothing you are likely to string on is going to fill the hole – short …

Fail!

Here’s a new exclamation for your lexicon: Fail! It’s not a new word – just a new way to use it. For instance – I was in the grocery store t’other night, and there was a wonderful display of big, fat yams (well – actually – sweet potatoes – not “true” yams – but I grew up calling them yams and the word yam is inherently funny. Much like snazzy and weasel. Snazzy weasel yams. Just try not smiling!) – annnnyhooo – I stopped dead in my track (have you noticed what scrawny yams the stores have been offering lately?) …

Inspirational Quotes

On the wall of the studio, someone stuck up a quote, which says in essence: The more I do what I am supposed to do, the more I become who I am supposed to be. (I may have the exact wording wrong, and I can’t remember the author.) But it’s food for pondering, and I ponder it quite a bit, as some days it seems to be words to live for, and other days, it seems simplistically obvious. But one thing is clear – it mattered enough to someone to write it down and put it on the wall. The …

When it rains, it pours.

Sorry for the lack of blog post today. A few weeks ago, a flu bug that started with my kids hit us, then my husband and I developed bronchitis…Well, now the kids have it. I need everyone to send over some healthy vibes this way 🙂 – more tomorrow once my headache goes away (or when my kids finally pass out for the night)!

Can you believe it is nearly 2009?

Some how November has suddenly turned into December, can you believe it? Weirdly enough though, since it is December, I need to start thinking about January. I have been working like crazy on the class schedule for the New Year and it looks great! Right now there are a few of our returning classes up for January, February and March and over the next week or two tons of new stuff is coming as well. Just to give you a little sneak peak of 2009, we will have 3 new Stephanie Dixon beaded crochet classes, a Stitching 101 techniques class, …

They like us, they really like us!

Last month we asked a question that I wasn’t really sure about. The question was, ‘What do you like about us?’ Generally, it’s infinitely more helpful to ask what you ‘don’t’ like about us. But sometimes it’s just kinda nice to hear good things 🙂 There is always room for improvement, in any company. Ours is certainly not an exception. I thought I would post a few comments that were made. We got a lot of responses to our question. In fact, over 400 of you responded! I’ve just posted a few here, but the responses were all fairly similar. …
