February is looking hot!!

February is looking hot–not just because Valentine’s Day is coming or because the temperature outside has risen, but because of the super hot classes we have coming up this month!! A lot of our February classes are full or just about full. But, do not despair, because there is still room in some of the really interesting classes. This Saturday we have An Introduction to Chinese Knotting with Angela Peace. We only offer this class about once a year. There are only 3 spaces available so I would book now if you are interested. February 21st and and 22nd we …

Tuesday….

Who ever said Tuesday was supposed to be crazy busy. I feel like it should be Friday…I wish it was Friday 🙂 Marg our buyer has been in Tucson for the last week. While she was gone, I took over the inventory (along with lots of help!), and restocking. Or at least attempted to without making too much of a mess of things. Marg is highly efficient at what she does. She seems to know the wholesale price of almost every sku we carry off the top of her head. She can keep our weekly shopping within budget effortlessly.Let’s just …

Using Perforated or Screen Findings – Part 3 – Finishing Off

By now, your buggy bouquet should be looking nice and full and flourishing. The back should look like a dog’s breakfast. Worry not! Twist all the loose wires together on the back. Trim them – not too short. You need for the tension to stay on the wire, but short enough to give you room to add the back plate. Fit the back into position. Make sure it is oriented so that the pin back is the right way up, – doesn’t sit upside down when you wear it – and that the prongs can all fold down without hanging …

Using Perforated or Screen Findings – Part 2 – Adding Depth

Next, we’ll add the focal flowers. Because these are flattish with a central hole – the are tough to wire on directly. Poke the wire up through the screen, and through the flower bead, and then through a smaller bead (in this case, an aqua bicone) and back through the centre of the flower. You can go through the same hole or a different one in the screen. At this point – it is getting busy back there – so you may have to go for whatever hole you can get it through. For the next two flowers – I …

Using Perforated / Screen Findings – Part 1 – getting started

This is an oldie, but a goodie. I made this a while back, but if you’d like more detail about making brooches using the peforated or screen findings – this has detailed pictures and more in-depth instructions. I’m going to add these as a series of posts, as I’m having trouble with blogger losing text – It may be having a bad day – or just not like a really long post. The idea was to make a happy, spring themed pin or brooch. A nice, bright, happy brooch is a good antidote to our relentless and never-ending winters. Remember …

Tucson: Coming home

It’s the last day in Tucson for me and just as well – it’s turned cold and rainy here. I feel really sorry for the people who are showing in tents or outdoors. As far as I’m concerned, I’m about beaded out. I feel like if I see one more dyed-howlite-masquerading-as-genoooine-Sleeping-Beauty-Turquoise, I’m gonna barf. You’d think that these vendors know what it is they are selling, but all too often, they don’t. So Buyer Beware applies in spades at these shows. Turquoise-dyed howlite has a legitimate place in beading, but I’m darned if I’m going to pay for this stuff …

Useful Resource: OneAcross

Last week, I gave you a crossword puzzling game – where you needed to figure out the words without the clues. Of course, if you had a good dictionary, that you could ask “what’s a 4 letter word that starts with z and ends with c” – that would have been useful, eh? So try out OneAcross – help for crossword puzzlers, anagramers and word puzzles in general. Use a “?” as a marker for the letters you don’t know, so our example above is “z??c” – which gives us “zinc.” Or had you thought of that? How about “zoic?” …
