Lasts Night Boro class, and the inspiration…

First off, it seems I made a wee bit of a mistake with my earrings last night. Funny thing was, I had a few inspirations ready to go up, but of course being the major procrastinator that I am. I waited to the last minute to actually photograph them. I wasn’t originally planning on taking the boro class, so what should have been a few hours to work on them, turned into less than an hour by the time I got home. Now, these earrings I made a few weeks ago (3 or 4 in fact), and I’ve looked at …

Boro Class tonight

Tis the season of classes – at least for me. As the weather gets cold, I tend to get into a little seasonal slump. It happens to most people in February, but for me, it’s always this time of year. There is nothing like taking a class to get your creative mojo back. Tonight I’ll be taking Keith’s Icicle class. I’ve always wanted to learn how to work Borosilicate glass, and this seems like the perfect first project to try out. I had the opportunity to sit with Keith during our last lampworkers trunk show, and watching him turn out …

Taking Great Photos. Part 11: And the Award for Least Intuitive Name goes to: Unsharp Mask

Yes indeedy – if there were awards for the most confusing name – “Unsharp Mask” would be it. And it’s not just PhotoShop – other image editing software out there uses the same term – so there is some sort of sense to it, I suppose, or history, that I just am not aware of. Howsoever – it is a totally useful tool to put into your bag of tricks. What “Unsharp Mask” does, is make soft focus, or slightly fuzzy pictures, look like they are in sharper focus. So “unsharp” sharpens. Go figure. Access it in PS through the …

Omigawd – they’re glass!!!!

Omigawd – check out these owls! Sculptures of owls – made of blown glass. These are a-freakin-mazing! And if you are not familiar with how blown glass is made – and don’t truly appreciate the challenge of making a sculpture with a medium that is 2000 degrees, constantly moving and can’t be allowed to cool down, you can check out her video for a little view of the process. I’m gobsmacked. As a glass worker – I am profoundly impressed.

Happy Friday and google reader

I’ll admit, I can be a bit slow when it comes to using new things – or not so new in this case. Yeesh, for a former techy, I’m really embarrassed to admit that I’ve only just started getting into RSS feeds for my favourite blogs (including this one of course!) I can view all 50 or so of my blogs in one place, and see if there are updates. Help me add to my addiction and my google reader. What are your favourite blogs?
