Off Again and New Shapes

Hey ho – off again. But this trip is a working trip. Of the best kind. Beads. Crystals. We’re off to a Swarovski conference. Are you jealous yet! BTW – the Swarovski Crystallized site has a survey and you could win a bracelet – if you want to go visit and answer a few questions. Pearls I mentioned last week that there was a new colour of Pearl – but there is also a new shape! The new shape is 5840 Baroque Pearl. New Shapes in the Crystal Beads This is a new addition to the “Floral” series of shapes …

SteamPunk Jewelry

SteamPunk – is a visual esthetic born of a science fiction blend of Victorian science and sensibility with advanced technology. Think steam-driven robots, zeppelins plying the skies, coal-fired computers, clockwork anything, and everything adorned with brass and gears and lovingly hand-made. Got it? Good – check out Daniel Proulx’s awesome Steam Punk inspired jewelry. Then, if you are feeling inspired, go find some washers and wire and maybe a broken watch and try your own interpretation of it! (Hint – the Vintaj components work really well for this!)

Still playing this week

It’s been an interesting week for me. I’m still not feeling great, and my sleep schedule is completely out of whack. I woke up around midnight last night after sleeping a good 16 hours – yeesh.  I put on the coffee, and headed down into the studio. I started out by making more blossom rings, and then ran off on a new tangent with copper wire. With the Ice Resin coming in fairly soon, I’m planning on lots of projects for you – some as classes, and other free ones to post here, or in the Inspiration section.  The two …

Stuck at home

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been housebound. I have a recurring illness that completely and utterly wipes me out. My first week was spent in bed, however we’re now into week two, and look out – I’m bored. I still can’t make soap which of course involves a lot of standing, and lugging around 50 lb boxes of raw materials, nor can I leave the house for an extended period of time – that said, I can make beads, and jewelry, and, and, and…. Here we’re into day two – I’ve now made about a zillion ceramic beads …

What’s new at Swarovski?

We recently attended a presentation by Swarovski to see the new colours and products that are being rolled out. These are the 2011 Spring/Summer items. You have to remember that the fashion industry is a year ahead – the colours you will be seeing on the shelves next year are already planned, I’m afraid. So, while these are the new products for next year, we will have them in the store shortly! There’s a few items, so I’ll cover them over a couple of weeks. Like with any good product presentation seminar – there is the loot bag – otherwise …

Customer Gallery

A new addition to our customer gallery – this beautiful crocheted collar by Gail Davis-Bryant. What, you didn’t know we had a customer gallery? Well – given how large the site is, I guess we can forgive you for that! Check out other customer’s works, and staff creations too, here. You can submit your items for inclusion too. It has to be mainly created with beads we sell, the exception being your own handmade beads, regardless of medium, and you have to be an actual customer. Send your images and anything about your creation to info@beadfx.com

Artistic Wire Repackaged

We’ve been low on Artistic Wire lately as the manufacturer has been changing the packaging, and they didn’t want to ship any until they got it all converted. Well – it looks like they may finally be done, and so the new stock is starting to trickle in. They have switched the size and type of spool, with the new spool (bottom) resembling those that the Softflex and other beading wire and cables come on. It’s still the same quantity on a spool. And being a larger, wider spool, will take up more room on the wall. (sigh)
