New This Week!

Hearty Heart Heart! Jen’s recent set of heart inspirations (Lock & Key, Hearts Ablaze) reminded me that Valentine’s Day is coming up. You’d think the sea of chocolate in all the stores would have made that point, but I’ve been a little distracted lately – what with the move and the studio renovation and all. It did spark some conversations about hearts – or specifically the “heart shape” – which some folks adore as being a pleasing shape with positive and fond associations, and others despise for being a representation of everything overtly sentimental and “precious” – I think was …

Lampwork Studio Progress

A number of folks have asked about the progress of the lampwork studio – especially after they have seen the store and how exciting that is! It looks like it will be another week for the lampwork studio – here is a picture of how it looked at the beginning of last week. The vent hoods have been hung – and since then – the torches have been mounted on the tables and the new table covered in metal. The “booster” – that blue box temporarily sitting on the end of the table in the picture – has been relocated …

The Joy of Metal Clay: More Saul Bell Award Finalists

Sandra Mikel – Saul Bell Award Entry in Metal Clay This week I want to share to additional Saul Bell Award Finalists in Metal Clay. The Business Chat – Know who you sell to

My first day of grade 9 was terrifying. I was too skinny, really short and younger than everyone else. Speaking of everyone else, wow, there were so many kids! All I remember was a sea of bodies all dressed in different styles and hanging out in so many little groups. It was overwhelming. Of course as time went on I figured it out, I weeded out who I liked, who liked me, and what style worked for me. It did take time though. Starting to sell your work is like going into grade 9. There is a sea of customers …

New This Week!

It’s TWINS!!! “Congratulations – it’s TWINS!” – there’s a phrase to strike fear into the hearts of many a brave parent. However – these twins aren’t terrifying – they are a new oval seed bead from Czech that have two – count ’em – two holes. They look sort of like those little oval domino masks for masquerades and carnivals. They also look like little pig snouts – but I’m thinking “snout beads” is probably not a winning name – so we’ll just stick with “twins” – shall we? There will be about 80 colours – so far we have …
