Bead and Button Show Part Deux

I’m still decompressing from the amazing time I had at the Bead and Button Show. I saw lots of new tools, components and techniques but the booth and tool that stole the show for me was the Sizzix booth and the new Jill MacKay line of leather cutting dies. The dies require a set of magnetic plates that holds them in place, and the dies cut various sized cuff blanks, flower and other shapes in a variety of sizes, and delicate, lacy leather overlays. You will be cutting out leather cuff shapes and embellishments that will elevate your finished jewellery …

The Business Chat – This show sucks!!!

“This show sucks! There’s no people here. These people are stupid. There’s too much jewelry/pottery/[insert craft here]! This organizer is terrible! No one is buying! It’s too hot for people to buy!” Blah blah blah.  At a recent craft show I heard a lot of comments like this. I heard them in MY booth. Fellow crafters kept wandering into my booth to whine. No, the show isn’t one of the better shows and yes the weather wasn’t great. Here’s what I have to say.  Dear fellow crafter, it’s not the show, the show doesn’t suck, you do. You didn’t do …

Continue with attaching 2 of the 6 mm twist j/r until you get about 1.5 inches …

Back from Bead and Button

A week ago today I was enjoying a trolley ride to Milwaukee’s wonderful bead store called Eclectica. Based in a suburb of the city, the store is actually three connected storefronts that hold an amazing treasure trove of goodies.    I’ll blog about some of the interesting things I saw and classes I took over the next few weeks. If you were there too, please feel free to share your impressions/photos in the comments section.  I fell in love with this red dragon scale bustier that was an entry in the Bead Dreams competition. I know it would never fit …

InspirationFX: Infinitely Pink

InspirationFX Get your creative juices flowing Infinitely Pink by: Pam Kearns The two-hole beads just keep on coming! I was asked to see how the Infinity Beads worked — and they are simply great to work with! If you haven’t seen them, they are constructed just like two size 11 seed beads sitting side by side – sort of like a peanut shape. The beads are a little thicker than typical size 11 seed beads and have the little indentation between ‘two’ beads. I found the sizing and shaping of the seed beads very consistent and didn’t need to set …

Donut Mixes and Miyuki 6/0s This Week at BeadFX

I was on the Shores of Sri Lanka – eating a bowl of Berries on a Cloud, watching the Sparkling Waves roll up the beach, washing away the Sands of Time. It wasn’t that long ago, I had been contemplating a San Diego Fog, a symphony in greys that was not as harmonious as a Spring Melody. To heck with it all – I said – I want a new life, with Exotic Spices and Wild Fruite. A Turkish Bazaar, perhaps. A new life – filled with donuts. Lots, and lots of 3 x 5 mm donuts. Which is what …
