Princess Ah-Roar-ah (And Spike) Guard the Cat Beds

Many of you know that we carry the lovely, luxurious . These are the creme de la creme of beading surfaces, and come in a range of sizes for projects big to small, stay at home or portable. Anyway, I digress. Sometime ago, I took a small black cat stuffie to the store to sit on the displayed Bead on it Boards, because I discovered that the staff in the store had nicknamed them “the catbeds.” (They are flat and have a raised rim. Ergo – catbeds.) One day a lady came in, and desperately wanted to buy the black …

New! New! New!

What’s new this week? Well, some , some pinch beads, a new colour of metal clay, some new beading thread, and, oh yeah – the entire website!!!!!   Yes – a new look, that is fresher, cleaner, faster, more streamlined, and easier on the eyes. Easier to use on mobile too! New features like shopping by colour! Of course – as with anything this complicated – there are a few things that seem to be not quite what we expected. So please, if you find something weird, like pictures overlapping or showing up gigantic, or if you can’t find something …

Colour your Art!

I’ve never really been a trend follower, but sometimes it’s interesting to see what the runway gods predict that we will be wearing in the coming seasons (colours, styles, etc.). It always seems to be open to interpretation. After all, we are artists in our own right, and as such originals, so there is no real need to blindly follow the masses! Perhaps I should soften that approach! When I Googled jewellery trends for 2017, it gave me both fall/winter 2016, and spring 2017. It appears that we will all be wearing rhinestones and sparkly stuff (thank you Swarovski), oodles …

This is Not A Costume!

Well – look at this! (Gesturing to the website around me) – brand new website! This is not a costume – the look has changed but – well – now that I think about it – it sort of is like a change of clothes – because inside is all the same great beads and tools and supplies and stuff, but outside, well – let’s just say we decided to slip into something more comfortable! Cleaner, more relaxed, more focused on the beads. We hope you find this to be more streamlined, faster, easier on the eyes and easier to …

Big Wire – Big Crimps

New this week, Big Braided Wire, and crimps to join the ends. Here’s a cool idea – you can join the ends of this heavy, braided wire with crimps, to make a bangle bracelet!   It’s easy to do – size the wire to fit your wrist – it needs to go over the widest part of your hand – so 9-10 inches, and slide one of these large crimps halfway onto the end, and crimp, and then slide the other end of the wire into the crimp and crimp the other half! Easy peasy. (If you are adding beads …

Rolling out a new website!

We are working on our new website, and converting our blog to word press – which means that we are all stumbling around like a bunch of drunken chickens trying to figure out what to click on and where it takes us. The “thatched cottage and a field of sheep” lifestyle is looking pretty good right about now.

Wrap-up October with a ‘spook-tacular’ class!

No, our classes aren’t scary; we want you to feel comfortable when you come to take classes at BeadFX. We just love getting into the Halloween spirit! Hmm…I wonder how many beads it would take to cover a pumpkin? We have several new classes coming up with Sue Henry, Christine Woollacott, Maria Rypan, Gillian Clarke and Jen Rosen! We also have many encore classes in all jewellery-making mediums that you’ll enjoy, including revamped classes with Bonni Poch for bead crochet. Unfortunately, we needed to cancel our classes with Hannah Rosner due to lack of sign-ups, but don’t worry – we …
