Looking at 2017 jewellery trends

I’m looking forward to an exciting 2017 – a year of designing, teaching and attending events and classes such as the shows in Tucson and Bead & Button. As I make my plans, I spend a lot of time researching trends in jewellery. Following up on my fall 2016 trend report, I can see that many trends I reported on are still going strong while some have been modified and new ones added. Here’s what the major fashion magazines are reporting as major jewellery trends for spring 2017.  Statement necklaces – the longer the better and the bigger the better. …

2016 in Review!

And so, we begin the countdown to 2017 – ring out the old, ring in the new. Top Ten Fabulous new things at BeadFX in 2016 that you might have missed New Website Of course – one of the most notable things that was new this year was the new website. We updated for a more streamlined look that put more emphasis on the beads and was more responsive and mobile-friendly! No website upgrade of this size would be complete without the occasional hiccup – but you have all been enormously patient and helpful, and we thank you for that! …

Hand-made gifts and other creative pursuits!

The presents have all been ripped open, relaxation and leftovers are on the menu, and I’m slowly getting back into the flow of things! My hand-made gifts, all arrived safely at their destinations, so all is good for another year! BeadFX is closed until January 2nd, so most of the elves are taking a much-needed rest! Or are they? I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s a good excuse to catch up on reading, attempt to clean and organize the house (boy, does it ever need it!), explore some new creative pursuits, and even think about hand-made gifts …

Kick off the New Year with a Resolution to Learn!

Do you make New Year Resolutions? Personally, I find they focus so much on the negatives we need to change rather than the positives we want to bring into our lives. Learning is like that. We know that learning something new will make us feel better, give us a challenge and give us more positive energies. Yes, as the class coordinator I’m biased, but I like it when I’m on the other side of the table learning from someone who is enthusiastic about teaching me about something I want to learn. My own focus for 2017 will be to learn …

InspirationFX: Simply Stunning

Simply Stunning by: Dwyn Tomlinson This necklace features some of our fancy chain – this fishbone chain is a knockout – but you can just use some as an accent with other chains – you don’t have to make the whole piece with it. This satin matte chain looks simple amazing with the Mexican Amber. This makes an 18 inch necklace, feel free to adjust to suit your own preference. Most of the large nuggets will need a 2 inch headpin. I actually used a piece of wire and glued it into the pendant with hypotube cement, but using a …

Merry Beading to all and to all a Good night!

T’was just before Christmas, and the malls were all hopping. Not a beader was beading, they were all madly shopping. Oh, the beads and the tools were all lined up with care, in the hopes that spare moments soon would be there. The kids were distracted, farmed out with their Gran, it was now the last minute – and a do-or-die plan. Just a few left to go, it’s a workable list. I’m checking it twice so that no one is missed. There’s relatives coming; I’ve baking to do; and wrapping and boxing and cleaning and Whew! We all love …

A reflection or two!

Do you believe that reflections on the future, can often be found in the past? It’s something that I believe in, and it’s certainly the only way to proceed into an uncertain future.   Art is funny that way! You can go merrily along on your way, and then stop suddenly, when you come to an unexpected roadblock. It could be health, financial, time, lack of inspiration, and even work or family related. These roadblocks tend to ‘smack you in the face’ when you’re least expecting it, but are easy to overcome, if you reflect back on how you reacted …
