Wooden you know it?

The most requested item we have had lately is for wood. Most specifically – sandalwood beads for mala bracelets and guru beads. And so we now have them – aromatic sandalwood and cedar wood beads, and guru bead sets. You ask – we go find them for you. But also in the theme of wood – we also have some new designs in these lovely, light, laser cut wood pendants. You can use these as is – or alter them with paint or stain (oil-based sharpies work particularly well for adding color.) From the gallery of obscure beads – we …

Clutter Bug Anonymous – confessions of a serial crafter!

Do you shudder, every time you peek into your craft room? Are you a clutter bug in real life, or just in a craft sense? Do you feel out of control? I wish that I had answers, but I’m just as bad, if not worse than the rest of you. (Please note: the above room is definitely not mine!) I’m proud to admit that I’m the founding member, of the Toronto Chapter, of Clutter Bug Anonymous, because there’s nothing wrong with a serial crafting addiction. You simply can’t help yourself! It started with something simple, like Art, Shop, or Home …

Yes, we’re coming to that day of the year when you may be the butt of a joke or two! Seek refuge in our classes! Of special notice in our early April classes is our first-ever class in lapidary. Led by artist Boris Kolodny, students will learn how to cut, shape and polish their own stone cabochons. Bonni Poch is teaching how to create beaded tassels and then how to create the necklace to wear it with! Cindy Goldrick has a new metal wrapped bangle that is a perfect project for metalworking ‘newbies’. Of course we have lots of encore …

InspirationFX: Easy Charm

Get your creative juices flowing~~~ Easy Charm Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson Easy and charming – just the thing for making a very personal gift for someone in not too much time. People appreciate the time and the thought and energy that goes into a gift versus a store bought gift, and the more mature they are, the more they appreciate it. (Which is to say – the kiddies probably still want video games and gift cards.) While this is similar to Anne Marie’s ‘Say It Like It Is’ bracelet, it is just a little different, and you can steal ideas …

Getting to Know…Carolyn Cave

When Carolyn Cave’s book Beautiful Designs with SuperDuos and Twin Beads arrived at BeadFX in I eagerly opened it up and saw lots of wearable designs that I instantly fell in love with. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to Carolyn when we were both teaching at Bead and Button in 2015 and again in 2016. I knew she would be a fantastic addition to our visiting instructor roster at BeadFX! The result? Carolyn is teaching four classes at BeadFX: Constellation Beaded Bead and Pendant (April 28; 10:00am – 1:00pm); Octagana Bracelet (April 28; 2:00 – 5:00pm); Atlantea …

Expired: We never do this – 24 hour opportunity!

We never do this – overlap a sale and new stuff because – well – you all are usually too busy shopping to pay any attention to the new stuff. Which makes me sad. 🙁 Beads get lonely too you know. However – due to my screwing up the announcement of the sale end date and extending the sale by a day as a result – you have a very limited window to actually get these new size 8/0 and size 11/0 Toho Demi Round seedbeads on sale – for one measly day only. So – one last day of …

Components to die for…and I’m not kidding!

A messy keyboard is not a pretty thing! Whenever I surf the Internet, &/or flip through magazines, I drool over exciting new components! Cabochon, pendant or bead – who cares? I’m not a purist, and I believe that you should experience anything your little heart desires. Art jewellery is generally viewed as its own entity! Not all makers, sell finished jewellery! They make components to sell to consumers, and other artists. A nice production line, and the revenue it generates, is very seductive! Perhaps you don’t want to spend time and effort, developing components of your own, but you want …

BeadFX welcomes two very talented and inspirational instructors in April

Canada has a wealth of impressive artists and instructors in the jewellery-making field. In April, we are extremely pleased to offer series of classes with two well-known and high-calibre Canadian instructors: lampwork artist Karina Guevin and seed beading artist and author Carolyn Cave. Karina Guevin joins us from Montreal and will be teaching a three-day class featuring sculptural and glassblowing techniques. Her playful flamework jewelery and sculptures inspired by nature has been recognized with a Francois-Houde Award and grants from the Canadian and Quebec Consul for the Arts, La SODEC, and a Gilles Verville grant in visual art. Guevin is …
