August bead mat update: Tales from the recycling bin!

I like to think that recycle, reuse, and repurpose, are the main messages in my August bead mat update! Serious words, that must play an important part, in the world we live in! When I dig through my quilting fabric boxes, I think of fabric twine (amongst other things). I always even off the selvedge edges, before I tear any fabric strips (call me obsessed!). Then I end up with a pile of colourful fabric strips, that are somewhat uneven! How could I let that happen? What the heck should I do with them? Are they useful, or not? Waste …

Such fun we had!

Such fun we had last Saturday! A demo by the talented team of Karina Guevin and Cedric Ginart – demonstrating making one of their signature glass goblets for a bus-load of excited collectors! Who knew we could pack so many into the studio! Celebrity glass blower Laura Donefer and renowned glass artist Susan Edgerley were also in attendance. These world-class artists put Canada on the map in the glass world! Plus – they are all super-nice people!   Karina taught a class here at BeadFX – watch our calendar for more potential classes to come!

Arcos et Minos, par Puca!(tm)

Something about these new additions to the shaped-bead family make me feel oh so French, dahling! And you just have to have a leetle browse on pinterest, no? to see what fabulous designs are happening with these new beads, n’est pas? Some of the designs are tres clever, and make excellent use of combining the shapes to make very sophisticated designs from very simple elements. Well – that’s about it for me for my high-school French – but these enticing little shapes are designed to work together, the cylindrical Minos snuggling into the centre curve of the curvy Arcos. Here’s …

Forgotten treasures: Digging through the clutter!

Forgotten treasures, are not a thing of the past! Very much in the present for me, so I expect for you as well! If the horror be known, I’ve been having a little check and chuck, in my spare room/studio. Perhaps you know that figurative room? It might be a closet, drawer, desk, dining room table, under the bed, your basement, or even the garage (or all of the above)! The place of shame where you would like to create, but cannot, because of all the clutter. Would that I could, de-clutter in just one day! However out of the …

Looking ahead to a new season of classes

September. The month conjures up a mixture of feelings. Sadness because summer is coming to an end and vacations are over. Relief because crazy schedules are getting back to normal. Anticipation because lots of opportunities are just around the corner. It’s like that at BeadFX too. We see customers and students who have been away and we get to hear great stories about travels and see projects that were completed or started in the summer but are also excited to see what’s coming up. This Fall will see a number of new projects in all jewellery-making media and we are …

InspirationFX: Airy Fairy

Get your creativity flowing~~~ Airy Fairy Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson The soft pinks and blues of the Powder Blue Impression Jasper strike me as very soothing and pretty. I went to town and make a whole suite of items from this lovely stone. (A few have already gone up in previous weeks and watch for a couple more in upcoming weeks) My first thought was to combine gold-plated metal findings and beads with the Powder Blue Impression Jasper, but I found I did not care for the look. The bright copper metal beads and finding – that was another story, …

You’re not going to believe what they called this turtle

This week – we have a new selection of stamps for you – the ImpressArt stamps are top quality and one of our most popular products. You tell us you love these stamps – and we agree! They are made from hardened carbon tool steel, precision cut for crisp impressions, and designed to last! You can stamp them on metals from aluminum to copper to brass to sterling, or if you work in softer materials, there is no reason why you can’t use them on polymer clay, or metal clay before firing. Or after firing. Both works! Speaking of metal …

Pantone Fall 2017 Colour Trends – What are they wearing on the runways?

I’m certainly not an expert, but the Pantone Fall 2017 Colour Trends, seem to influence how we view colour, in both fashion, and jewelery! Watch for these colours!! You’ll see them in the stores, the street, and in magazines! According to Pantone: “Every season the team at the Pantone Color Institute evaluates the colours shown by fashion designers in their collections at New York Fashion Week. This information is then used to create the PANTONE Fashion Color Report where we highlight the top 10 colors for men’s and women’s fashion for the upcoming season. For the first time ever we …
