Mid-November Classes are Spell-Binding

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, physician with the Canadian Army Medical Corps; composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1945, during the second battle Ypres, Belgium. For full poem, click here. InspirationFX: Jack-O-Lantern

Get your creative juices flowing ~ ~ ~ Jack-O-Lantern Designed by: Erin Singleton With 3 days to go before Halloween it’s getting pretty hard to tell if your neighbours have been decorating or were the victims of a grizzly murder. In the evening, ghosts sway from tree branches while jack-o-lanterns flicker their orange glow from porch after front porch. To help get in the spirit, without all the cobwebs and caution tape, we’ve come up with this ghoulish necklace. A Swarovski skull dangles from a strand of matte black river stone while bead caps and bicones mimic the orange fire …

October 2017 Bead Mat Update: Mixing it up!

My October 2017 bead mat update, is really a poem to my eclectic tastes! I could tell you that I specialize in one thing or another, but that would be a lie! I love all things creative! Sometimes I just need a taste, to satisfy my craving, but I certainly couldn’t focus on everything. It would be pretty boring, if I only did what was expected! Wouldn’t it? To start off my October 2017 bead mat update, I want to announce that I’ve finished the beading on my little purple minx doll. Hooray!!! That’s really just a working title, but …

Bring Colour to November

November comes and November goes; With the last red berries and the first white snows. ~ Elizabeth Coatsworth (1893-1986) Yes, October’s pallet of colours are fading, but November brings new opportunities. How about a shot of bright red in that symphony of black, white and gray? Increase your design and technical skills at a class in November! We welcome Betty Stephan in early November as she brings three bead embroidery classes that will spark your creative imagination. Also new is a brick stitch design with Pamela Kearns that focuses on individual components that you will join to form a bracelet. …

InspirationFX: Nile Waters

Get your creative juices flowing ~ ~ ~ Nile Waters Designed by: Rosemary Beasley The starting point for this necklace was a strand of the little ‘tooth’ shaped pieces of s56460 5×15 Flat Chips Impression Jasper. The aqua/turquoise tones represent the water of the Nile River and the sandy veining the sand of the surrounding deserts. The 2mm fire polish beads were added to give a hint of sparkle, like the sunlight bouncing off the waves.Although I have never taken a cruise down the Nile, this is how I imagine the Nile to look. Maybe someday I will have a …

Ornaments & Jewellery/The Eyes Have It

Ornaments and Jewellery. Well – jewellery is just ornaments for your body, and ornaments are just jewellery for your tree. Or your home or whatever you choose to adorn. Or ornament – as the case may be. I have a select few beaded ornaments hanging from the ceiling in my office – all season long. Out of context of a tree – they aren’t particularly Christmassy, but they are definitely ornamental! Swarovski has a new colour – Scarlet – which, if you are a fan of red, you will love. And if you are a stickler for correct usage …

Beading woes! Is this the ending, or just the beginning?

Are you familiar with the subject of beading woes? I feel that finishing a project, brings on a certain kind of emptiness. It can only be satisfied, by starting another project. I don’t have many unfinished projects! I do have components, made for the sake of making! Stash is not the same as unfinished projects! They are teaching experiments! That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!!! Freeform peyote bracelet finished – check! I will use it as a teaching sample (early 2018). Sad to finish, but I will work on another soon! Is that a new beginning? Freeform peyote …

Dream Enchanted Night Music with Betty Stephan

As a child, my mom got me doing embroidery – the chain stitch, lazy daisy, outline – all done with a needle and colourful embroidery floss on a pre-printed design. And yes, stitched embroidery continues to this day – but I know she would be astounded with BEAD embroidery! If you haven’t caught the bead embroidery bug (the wonderment is contagious!) and are filled with admiration about what bead embroidery can produce but are worried if you can do it? YES, YOU CAN! Betty Stephan is an award-winning design and much sought-after designer. She has designed her classes so that …

InspirationFX: Laredo Lariet

Laredo Lariet Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson You – sometimes you sit down to make one thing, and a different piece of jewelry happens! I was going to make a necklace with tassels, but then I had these beads on the table and the next thing you know, I’m using them instead! The basic idea is the same – the very fine chain and the silicone-filled slider bead to make the clasp. Just be sure that you put the slider bead on BEFORE you add the beads dangling at the end. Don’t ask me why I think it is very important …
