Tangled Techniques – and other stories!

If the truth be known, I’m all about tangled techniques! The tanglier (of course, that isn’t a real word), the better!!

There’s not really much that I haven’t tried. I doodle, but do not tangle (as in Zentangle). I paint, but mostly Gelli print. My stitching life is not current, and I neither knit nor crochet. Collage and Eco-printing are favourites of mine, but I do not scrapbook, or make cards. I do know how to draw and sketch, but do I do it now? Not often! Resin is a definite yes, but I’m sadly behind on my artist concrete, two-part epoxy, and polymer clay work. But then, what about metalwork, metal clay, and enamelling? Don’t they deserve equal time?

I bead and embroider, and sometimes combine the two. I do know most of the rules, but am happiest when I am breaking them. Part of my tangled techniques addiction, falls in the realm of intuitive embroidery, freeform peyote, and freeform everything else! Am I crazy, out of control, or just obsessed? Perhaps a little of each! I don’t have enough time to do, everything I do!

The trouble with jumping around from technique, to technique, is that you never have time to focus! Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, everyday life, and my imagination, bombard me with an overload of images, and ideas. I just need to snatch them out of the imagine-o-sphere! Capturing the elusive, is not an easy feat! There’s just not enough time!!! My circuits are going crazy, with all the input!!

As we head towards the end of 2017 (how did that happen?), I reminisce about what it was like when I only had a busy corporate job, and a fibre hobby to contend with. I never thought that I would say, those were the days. I have more time now, than I ever had then, but still I have no time. Woe is me! Of course, I know that many of you also share my addiction to tangled techniques, so what are we going to do about it? Carry on, I expect!

I do not make resolutions, but I will promise to try to focus more in 2018. I know that my tangled techniques will not go away. It would be like choosing your favourite child, and that would be impossible! I can promise you more eco-everything, freeform peyote, intuitive bead embroidery, fibre, and perhaps a marriage of all of the above. That should make for some pretty cool, BeadFX classes! Not to mention, extremely satisfying personal work!

Merry Christmas to those that celebrate, and happy holidays to the rest of you! I wish you safety, warmth, health, happiness, and most of all peace!
