Freeform Fancies and Other Treats!

Immersing yourself in freeform fancies, is a perfectly lovely way to spend the day! Have you every done this? If not, it’s something that you should consider. I love everything about freeform! It doesn’t matter if it’s peyote, bead embroidery, collage, painting, resin, machine, or hand embroidery, it’s all good to me! I taught a freeform peyote bracelet workshop, at BeadFX, to a wonderful, talented, group of students! Nine ladies, and one gentleman. One of the ladies, brought her husband along, so that she would end up with two bracelets. Smart lady! Of course, she picked out the beads, but …

Delve into peyote with Nancy Cain!

If you’re into seed beading – especially peyote – like I am, you’ll be ‘chomping at the bit’ to join one of Nancy Cain’s classes at BeadFX! Known for her structural beadwork, Nancy will take your skills to the next level in each of her three classes: Couture Cuff; Vessel No. 1; and Fusion Ring and Bracelet. According to Nancy in her Artist’s Statement, “I found my artistic niche in beads. I enjoy delving into beads mentally and physically depending on the circumstances. My favorite stitch is peyote and over the years I have only added two other stitches, netting …

Floating Rocks

InspirationFX – Get your creative juices flowing   by: Dwyn Tomlinson Rock it out with this floating rock creation! This project came together as an act of serendipity – happy coincidence. I had the sterling rocks on my table, thinking about a bracelet (which I also made, actually – sterling rocks with one lampwork bead, on stretchy elastic) and the Kaputt Pendant, with the bail, from the photo that I took for the website. And I thought that they looked really good together – and hey presto – next thing you know – I have this! You could make this without …

Kim Fields returns to BeadFX for an exciting 3 day class

When we get requests for an instructor to teach again at BeadFX, we know students want to repeat a wonderful experience. Such is the case of Kim Fields! Kim is an acclaimed artist and instructor with over 25 years of lampwork experience. On a whim, in 1999, Kim took a beginner’s lampworking class. Just a year later she found that working with glass was so fulfilling, she decided to leave her 20-year corporate career behind and devote herself completely to the art of glass beadmaking and jewelry design. Kim has taught at many of the most prestigious glass studios throughout …

Carrier Beads – we have ’em

Not a huge quantity in stock yet – but we do have more on the way. So, for now – snap these up while we have them! If you are thinking “WTF is a carrier bead?” (trust me, you are not alone on this) – then you have to look at this! The idea is to make an even-count peyote strip, 6 beads across and 50 rows long, using Delica 11/0s, and then wrap it around the bead and stitch the strip closed into a loop. Make a bunch, string them together as a bracelet or necklace – et voila! …

My Beady Valentines! How could I resist this post?

Well, my Beady Valentines, how will you be celebrating this day? Are chocolates, flowers, cards, or jewelery in your plans? Or, perhaps a quiet dinner at home? Do you believe that they’re calling these Valentines, vintage? I still remember giving, and receiving them in grade school (does that mean that I’m vintage?). It was such an exciting, yet disappointing process. Especially if you didn’t get one from your latest crush! Sigh! I hear that it’s all or nothing now, so no child is ever left without a Valentine. A very good plan! Valentine’s Day is just another day in my …

February: short on days but long on learning!

February is winter’s last major kick at the can, at least here in Canada. The days are getting longer and you can start to feel a thaw in the air – or is that wishful thinking? And, with only 28 days in February, we know March is just around the corner! February winds up with classes that will continue to fire up your creative passion. Beaders will enjoy a peyote class with Pamela Kearns (perfect if you want to brush up on your peyote skills before Nancy Cain‘s classes in March). Fibre artists will discover another Kumihimo technique with Angela …

Tango in Tibet

InspirationFX Get your creative juices flowing Tango in Tibet by: Dwyn Tomlinson These super-cute bracelets have an eastern vibe, and are so easy to make – it will be hard to stop at just one. Clearly, I couldn’t. Vary them up with different bead choices and different button accents – we have lots to chose from! Using the Elastic-Cord-Needle, string your approx 7 inches of beads (depending on the length you want and size of the wrist you are making for), and add the button last. Hook the Elastic-Cord-Needle into the middle of an approximately 18 inch piece of stretchy …
