Its 2018, and its time to focus on some words to live by! Which words, I do not know, but hope to by the end of this blog post.
New Year’s resolutions have never been my thing, and that’s something I share with many creatives. For me, it would be just setting myself up for failure! As words seldom fail me, they will certainly be a better option!
The logical first word will be CREATE! I would go crazy without this word. Of course, you’ll say that I do that anyways, and yes that’s true. However, with looming workshop deadlines, my need to create, sometimes goes into hibernation! A little creative play, in a completely different medium, helps to stoke the fire within!
My muse and I got together with a friend, for a little polymer clay playtime, on New Year’s Eve! She had never really worked with this medium, and I had not touched it for a couple of years (and then, only minimally). Well let me tell you, it was a blast! My pieces are quite simplistic, and I doubt that I will ever be a polymer clay expert, but I do promise you that I will continue to create, and experiment! I already have a few surface techniques (of course I do), that I want to incorporate into my next session. By the way, if you’re interested in learning more about polymer clay, the fabulous Barbara Colautti has a BeadFX workshop scheduled in January.
INSPIRE is the next of my words to live by! By experimenting with techniques, and developing new workshops, I want to inspire my students to join me, on a walk to the wild side! I’m tired of people telling me that they’re not creative! I want them to let go, try something new, then get up close and personal, with their inner child. That’s the secret to creativity!!! If I can entice them towards that direction, I’ll be a happy person! If you’d like to work on your own INSPIRE, why don’t you drop on by the Meet The Teachers Event, at BeadFX this Saturday? I guarantee that the temptations, creativity, and inspiration will be fabulous!!
Uneven numbers, are far more interesting than even ones, so I’ll need to add another word! The third of my series of words to live by, will be FOCUS! Something to strive for, but not always easy, or comfortable to do! Does this mean that I need to cut back on my techniques? Not a chance, but I should probably corral them a little, then focus on those that give me the most (creative) bang for my buck! In other words, the ones that relax me, expand my mind, and give me joy!!!
Speaking of joy, I just have to share the gift, that I made for our fearless leader! Its a Mini-Marg, and a true mixed-media doll she is (peyote, freeform peyote, Ice Resin, Iced Enamels, plus photograph)! I plotted with Dwyn, before the holidays, but I didn’t get a chance to work on M-M until last week. I giggled a lot while creating her, just thinking about all the M-M adventures she could have. Stay tuned!
You’re welcome to share mine, but I’d like to challenge you personalize your own words to live by, for 2018. Words are far easier than resolutions, and you don’t need to give up chocolate (or sweat the exercise), to live by them! I wish you a creative, inspired, and focused 2018!
Please excuse the non-cropped photos! I changed my security software, and all of a sudden, it won’t allow me to crop and save my photos!? Sheesh! More research required!!!
