For my March 2019 Bead Mat Update, I’d like to show you what I’ve been playing with lately.
Believe it or not, all of the jewelery pieces were created last weekend, but that’s not all! I’ve been futzing about with a big deadline, and also managed to meet my goal, with one whole day to spare. Colour me relieved!!
I celebrated meeting the deadline with a nap, then went on to create some stuff. I do have another deadline on the horizon, but I’ll take care of that before the end of the week.
My Artist’s Concrete was gathering dust, so I dug it out, but I seemed to have technical difficulties! While making my first “Faux Druzy” pendant, I poured the concrete, then lifted the open backed bezel, only to find that everything leaked out the bottom, into a neat little puddle! I guess water, mixed with the adhesive I used, just didn’t want to play nice. So back to the drawing board! Who knows what I’ll do with this folly, but I think that I’ll let it breathe for a bit (get thee into the component box!)? Do you think that I could use it in an intuitive bead embroidery piece?
The second piece worked!! Pale it is, but I like to think that it’s also subtle! I can’t be wild and crazy all of the time, can I?
Then on to two more pendants, using a different technique. I was over enthusiastic with the colourant on the first one, but I like the second much better.
I find that when I’m working with concrete, it’s always handy to have a small mold on hand, to use up the leftovers. Again, not all that thrilled with the results, so these ones will go into the component box as well! I’d better start back on the bead embroidery trail, before I start tripping over my components!! By the way, I still need to drill a hole in the shell, otherwise that circle just look weird!
Now finished with the concrete, I wonder what else I can get up to? How about playing with some of my wool roving? This little landscape did not even make a tiny dent in my stash, but I like it anyway!!
I won’t bore you with every single one, but let’s round out my March 2019 Bead Mat Update with four of my latest Stitch Meditation “Twinchies” (2” x 2”, little pieces of art). They’re so much fun to play with, but really don’t use up much fabric! Sigh! There’s even a SM Facebook group, if you’d like to join the movement!
I am a technique junkie, and I’m proud of it!! I’m less happy with the fact that my various stashes, never seem to diminish! I’ve been focusing on hand stitch lately, but perhaps I should crank up the sewing machine again. Working faster, might help me to pare the fabric down! I’ve even given some of it away, but like the “Tribbles” (in one of the old Star Trek episodes), it just keeps multiplying!!
I haven’t even started yet, but I have some plans for a new Bead Journal Project series (yep, another Facebook group!). Of course, I’m already behind for the year, but that doesn’t matter. I’ll start my year, whenever I start, so no stressing about catching up for me!!
That winds up my March 2019 Bead Mat Update, but it doesn’t end my hand work for this week. I’m planning on working on a few mixed media jewelery ideas, that may morph into classes. It’s amazing what a little sunshine, can do for your creativity. Bring on spring!
