Let’s talk about skinny leather? No, not leather that’s been put on a diet, but a pretty cool jewelry making supply!
I’m not sure what your definition of skinny leather is, but mine encompasses both round, and flat leather, and even leather and suede lacings. Now the question is, what the heck do you do with it?
Leather can be both casual, and dressy! Pair it with stones for a more casual look, or bling it out to make a real statement! I love to wear my leather, Chan Luu style, wrap bracelet with jeans (no, I didn’t make it, and sorry, no photo of mine), but I’m also tempted to make something similar with crystals. I’ll let you know when I get around to making them!!
Here are more samples of how some of the people of the internet, are using leather in their work.
I taught a private, leather and stone class recently, and had so much fun, that it’s now on the class schedule for June. Mixing up my media, seems to be my ‘thang’, so it’s only right that I include leather in the roster. I haven’t stopped experimenting though, so you can expect my skinny leather to be combined with wire, metal, and possibly even fibre, in the future. You know me! Once I start walking the path, I just can’t stop! I’ve only made three class samples (so far), but there are many more rolling around in my brain!! Heh, heh! The secret is how you balance, and blend the different components, to solve your design dilemmas!
Here are some samples of how BeadFX store staff used skinny leather in the past. Directions, and supply lists, can be found on the “Inspirations” page. As some of these are older projects, a few of the components may be long gone. However, if you call, or drop into the store, we can make some recommendations, to help you pull the project together.
There’s nothing that excites me more, than working with new/old media, and materials. Skinny leather is my current obsession (ahem, or one of them), and I’m hoping that some of you will join me on my journey of exploration! Are you ready?
