Canadian content is a must, due to the fact that we just celebrated Canada Day! I hope you don’t mind that it’s all about me!!
I worked on Saturday, but then had three whole days off in a row! No Canada Day celebrations for me, but I did provide all of the Canadian content in this blog post!
It was a lazy, but busy weekend! I’ve felt rushed lately, so needed a staycation. I did nothing that I had to do, but everything that I wanted to do. Reading, napping, stitching, beading, visiting friends, and even a little TV watching. It’s all good!
I’ll start with a June project, that I finished on the 30th. My June Bead Journal Project! Because it’s predominantly red, I decided to post to social media, on July 1st. My Canadian content for Canada Day! No maple leaves, but it does feel festive! I started with intuitive bead embroidery, but then I decided it needed freeform peyote. I love freeform, and am anxious to finish up a few projects, then start something completely new. Two bracelets (or is one a necklace?) are currently on the go, and I’m determined to finish at least one of them soon. Class (a bracelet) is coming up soon!
I wanted the red label on the top, but I forgot! Now it’s on the bottom!
I’ve been playing around with the idea of making talisman pouches, to hide secret things, and special objects. I drafted the pattern a while back, but just got around to stitching! The next step, will be a beaded edge, then either a beaded chain, or a cord. This is just the first in a series! Keep tuned!
Look at all the goodies I bought to complement my Coral Fringe Tassel. Yes, I did use the top of a bullet, for a bead cap! My nephew, and great nephew are hunters, and they happily passed on spent shells. Most came from target practice! I wonder if I can wait until my August class, to dig in?
More of my Stitch Meditations! A section of my ongoing scroll (it will eventually be around 7 feet in length), and my latest 2” x 2”,Twinchie! The spirals are my favourite, but I love both projects. Slow stitch is very soothing, and definitely good for the soul!
More Canadian content, and a little play with Quick Cure Clay! Three still need their coat of colour, but the one with the crystals, is a little too earthy for my taste (blech)! I’ll experiment with glazes next! It’s all practice for now!
Now for the U.S. part of the Canadian content! Claire, from Blue Quail Design, contacted me on Instagram to ask if I’d be willing to part with one of my 2018 Stitch Meditations. She saw my work in the summer edition of Belle Armoire Jewelry (but not the SM’s), and in fact, was actually the feature artist in that same issue. After some communication, we agreed to a trade. Two of my SM’s, for one of her pendants. Happy mail arrived in both cities, on the exact same day! Is that serendipity, or what? Isn’t this piece amazing? I cannot imagine working those teeny knots!
I’m happy with my staycation, and am eager to learn what you did over the holiday weekend! A belated Happy Canada Day, to my Canadian readers, and an early Independence Day, to my American ones!!
