Gemduos & The Elastic Needle

The next wave of GemDuos are here – the Gold Splash colours! Splashed with gold! More earthy than the Backlit Gemduos; Earthy is good, right?   Elastic Cord Needle! The Elastic Cord Needle. I thought for sure that this was going to be a swing and a miss in terms of new products – but I was pleasantly surprised! The instructions say: “Use the Elastic Cord Needle to plan out your beaded design, stringing the beads onto the wire, then catch 0.50 – 0.80 mm stretch cord with the threader hook, and slide your beads onto the elastic cord. The …

Zoliduos

When I first saw these curvy little paisley-shaped beads, I was enchanted. I saw them first on Pinterest – and the designs that are being made with them blew me away. And then, hey presto – we have them. Funny how that tends to work around here. 😉 So – the thing to know about Zoliduos is that they come in LEFT and RIGHT versions. They are a flat backed curved drop shape with two holes, and in order to get the amazing mirror image effects in the patterns – the symmetrical designs – you will need to have both …

Aqua Impression Jasper and a Revolution in Applying Glue!

I can’t decide which of these I’m more excited about – the new Aqua Impression Jasper – which is just soooo pretty – or the utterly fascinating Glue Looper! The Glue Looper is a revolutionary way to apply glue and adhesives. I’ve never seen anything like it. It first came to my attention with a video in an email from one of the beading magazines – with some handheld video from one of the bead shows – showing a demo of using it. I was gob-smacked. I encourage you to watch that video first. Now – if you watch this …

Bead the Raven

Once upon a midnight bleary, whilst I beaded to music eerie Poring over many a pattern and book from the beading store Whilst I beaded, nearly napping, accidentally sometimes stabbing The bead tray slips and I am grabbing, grabbing with my finger sore Argh I mutter, my finger sore, And now all my beads are on the floor Ack, my beads – I will lose them and there will be no more There will always be more beads – but sometimes, just not the beads you want. And sometimes, you accidentally buy the beads you already have – which is …

Declare yourself – oh mighty crafter – artisan to the gods – creativesmith and crafter Coil thy neck and wrists in steel with the hue of gold – that the sun might weep with envy Stand ye on the mountain tops – where the moon and the night sing duets in praise to the craft and creativity and weave ye …

Huicholing

Huichol, Huicholing. To Huichol. Huichol has become a verb around here – we use it to describe the process of covering something with beads. It started when we started carrying the Beadswax, and it is now just part of our lexicon. So recently I found this artist – Jan Huling – who is working in a similar vein. She calls herself a “beadist” – a term that I find very appealing because it is so open-ended, and she makes wonderful surface designs with beads using thin lines of glue and pre-strung beads, which she lays down on the glue and …
