Beading emergency! To bead or not to bead?

What do you do when you have a beading emergency? Do you panic, or just buckle down and get the job done? Your time is precious, so think about this carefully! Today is more of a blogging emergency for me! Turkey day (Canadian Thanksgiving) gifted me with an extra day, to spend quality time with some of my older projects. To my delight, I was able to put three of them to bed (sorry, only in-process photos, this week)! My freeform peyote bracelet, a freeform peyote beaded bead (the one with the fall palette), and a wire embroidered, beaded brooch. …

Stitches of the Beads We Brew

Yes, the bats will fly and the ghouls will howl at the end of this month, but there is nothing scary about the classes at BeadFX. We have lots of classes coming up in late-October, including a full day chainmaille class with Marilyn Gardiner. Newbies to metalworking (and anyone who wants a refresher) will want to take Iris Rogers Melamed’s intro to soldering sterling wire class. Anne Marie Desaulniers will take your bead embroidery skills along to include fabric charms. You’ll learn about doing a style of bead mosaic with Pamela Kearns, with a surprise addition of adding cord to …

InspirationFX: Sticks & Stones

Sticks and Stones Designed by: Dwyn Tomlinson I love these twig inspired links – it seems to me that there are so many possibilities for using them; I hardly know where to start! This very dainty necklace features the twig links, and rivolies – feel free to use your favorite color. You could also make this with more chain and only 2 links and one rivoli stone, or you could make matching earrings with a single link and a rivoli – assuming you like super long dangling earrings, and have the long neck to wear them! You’ll need these super …

Zoliduos

When I first saw these curvy little paisley-shaped beads, I was enchanted. I saw them first on Pinterest – and the designs that are being made with them blew me away. And then, hey presto – we have them. Funny how that tends to work around here. 😉 So – the thing to know about Zoliduos is that they come in LEFT and RIGHT versions. They are a flat backed curved drop shape with two holes, and in order to get the amazing mirror image effects in the patterns – the symmetrical designs – you will need to have both …

Blank Bead Syndrome: Do you ever experience it?

I never though that I would admit it, but I sometimes suffer from the debilitating effects of Blank Bead Syndrome. I bet you’re wondering what that is, and will soon enter it in the Google search bar! Never fear, the answer is here!!! I just made up Blank Bead Syndrome on the spur of the moment. It’s actually a close cousin to Blank Page Syndrome. According to Wikipedia – “Blank page syndrome is similar to writer’s block, but is not a psychological term. It can happen to a writer at any point in time, irrespective of their career success. This …

InspirationFX: Dark Amber Glory

Get your creative juices flowing ~~~ Dark Amber Glory by: Dwyn Tomlinson One of the advantages of shopping in store is the ability to wander around and look for exact colour matches. One of the advantages of reading these inspirations is not having to do that. 😉 This particular piece came about because I wanted to do something with the dark amber, and I wanted it to be a bracelet, because I was in a bracelet frame of mind. The Swarovski Crystal Red Magma is a perfect match for the dark amber, and adds a little sparkle, and the Rose …

Aqua Impression Jasper and a Revolution in Applying Glue!

I can’t decide which of these I’m more excited about – the new Aqua Impression Jasper – which is just soooo pretty – or the utterly fascinating Glue Looper! The Glue Looper is a revolutionary way to apply glue and adhesives. I’ve never seen anything like it. It first came to my attention with a video in an email from one of the beading magazines – with some handheld video from one of the bead shows – showing a demo of using it. I was gob-smacked. I encourage you to watch that video first. Now – if you watch this …
