Bead Crochet: Peacock Mandala Coin Purse in Two Styles (3 days over 3 weeks)

January 8 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Cdn $135.00 +Kit fee: $25 or $10 payable to the instructor the first day of the class.

Course outline: Under the guidance of Christine Woollacott, students will learn how to make a geometrically patterned coin purse using single stitch crochet with beads. The project will be worked flat, and in-the-round until the bead pattern is completed. This is an excellent first-step for those interested in making their own bead crochet bags, or for anyone who has enjoyed making bead crochet ropes and would like a new challenge. Note: a kit is required; see details below.

This three-day class will take place 6:00 – 9:00pm on the following three dates: Monday, January 8; Monday, January 22, and Monday, February 5.

Session 1: Hand-out bead charts, demo crochet, string beads, start the project.
Session 2: Meet-mid project. Problem solve, if necessary.
Session 3: Sew purse together and add the zipper to finish off the project.

Skill level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Experience with crochet stitches such as the chain stitch, slip stitch, and single crochet stitch is required. Please come with patience and enthusiasm.

Technique: Using single stitch crochet with beads (not slip stitch) to create an intricately patterned design. The project is worked flat, and in-the-round.

Bring to class:

  • 2mm crochet hook
  • Any necessary magnification
  • Possible colour substitutions will be discussed in class; the sample shows the following colours:
  • Milk White Matte – tb8r761 – sku 15490 – 1 tube for folded purse, and 2 tubes for circular purse. • Silverlined Teal – tb8r27bd – sku 15343 – 1 tube
  • Gilt Lined Turquoise Opal – tb8r2104 – sku 15303 – 1 tube

  • Gilt Lined Milky Lavender – tb8rpf2123 – sku 15312 – 1 tube
  • Fuchsia Lined Aqua Lustre – mb8-0352 – sku 44887 – 1 tube
