June 23, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Cdn $70.00 +Kit fee: $14 + HST, payable to the instructor the day of the class; optional kits available

Course outline: Join Marilyn Gardiner for a full-day boxing session. We’ll explore the Box Chain and the Staggered Box Chain, as well as other surprising box chain variations. This months class will focus on Box chains, with 2 methods of weaving the basic Boxchain, and progress to the ziggy-zaggy Staggered Boxchain. Along the way you will see/experiment with some boxchain variant surprises.

In class you will have the option to learn any or all of these, or design something for yourself that builds a piece with the Boxchain weave.**Prior to class, Marilyn will email students a link to some basic information about the resources and tools used to make chainmail jewellery (for pre-reading and reference).

In this all-day class:

  1. We’ll all start by making a pair of Boxchain Earrings using a different weaving method for each one.
  2. I’ll bring Boxchain bracelet kits (Beginner) in Argentium Sterling, Silver Filled, and Jeweller’s Bronze. Also Staggered Boxchain Bracelet kits (Beginner Plus) in Argenium Sterling, Silver Filled, and Jeweller’s Bronze.
  3. I’ll bring instructions plus samples of the Surprise Chains. Warning: these may be more challenging!
  4. You’ll either work on one of the various Boxchain kits, or plan a project that uses this weave. (We’ll all help each other with this. I’ll bring a special necklace and pendant to demonstrate how I think when I use this weave as a component.)
  5. You may choose rings you want to use (from Marilyn), and findings or beads (from BeadFX) if you are designing your own project. If you have an idea about what you might like to make, please contact me about pre-ordering the specific rings you’ll need.
  6. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and share your work following the class via my private FaceBook student group.
