Hot Connections: More Layering Metals

March 3, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Cdn $90.00 +Kit fee: $60, payable to the instructor the day of the class.

Course outline: In this class with Iris Rogers Melamed, we will explore the technique of sweat soldering, joining one layer of metal to another. We will start sweat soldering with the metal we are most familiar with – silver. Then we will move on to three more projects, incorporating copper and brass into our pieces.

Four projects will be completed in class: a silver on silver overlay, an open silver washer on copper overlay, silver posts with backings onto brass, and a silver, copper and brass overlay on copper with a bezel cup. For this last project we will first make a metal quilt and then cut out our project. The samples shown are only a suggestion – you can design your own projects, incorporating the materials and technique.

Skill level: Advanced Beginner

Prerequisite: Completion of Hot Connections 1: Intro to Soldering class is required. Haven’t taken Hot Connections 1? Click here for more information on the February 10th introduction class and registration.
