Hot Connections: Spinner Ring

March 9 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Cdn $90.00 +Kit fee: $55 + HST, payable to the instructor the day of the class.

Course outline: Take your soldering and metalworking skills up a notch! Starting with a strip of sterling silver sheet, we will design a wide band ring that is flared at the edges to contain a moving wire ring. At each stage of this project we will explore the technical skills required for the successful completion of this ring.

Skill level: Advanced beginner

Prerequisite: Hot Connections 1 or experience soldering with a micro torch and using a jeweller’s saw.

Technique: Working with sterling silver sheet; cutting, texturing, forming, fitting, soldering and finishing.

Bring to class: Please bring any metalsmithing tools, especially half round hand and needle files (cut 2 and 4), flat nose and half round pliers. If you have safety goggles bring them along, as well as any magnifying or reading glasses required for close-up work. Bring a lunch; coffee and cold drinks will be available.

Safety first! As we are using torches that heat up to 2500 degrees F, safety is a major concern. Please wear long sleeves, long pants and closed shoes. Make sure the clothing is not loose (particularly the sleeves). Please tie all long hair back and do not wear any loose bracelets or necklaces.

Of special note: the class patterns and instructions from our classes are for your personal use only. Please respect the intellectual property of our artists/instructors by not sharing, selling, or teaching the patterns you receive from the classes you take.
