Introduction to Metal Clay

March 31 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Cdn $145.00

Course outline: Powdered Metal Clay has an indefinite shelf life, but some find mixing it up a bit challenging. It’s not difficult, but there is a process that should be followed for best results. But when buying lump clay, especially if it has been on the shelf a while, it can be a bit dry. Conversely, very new clay can sometimes be somewhat sticky. This class will show you how to remedy all of the above conditions as well demonstrating a simple technique you can use to determine when your clay is just right.

Metal Clay takes texture wonderfully and we will experiment with a range of texturing methods. Attaching a bail and backing will also be covered. Finishing methods will be demonstrated and written instructions provided.

Skill level: Beginner

Prerequisite: N/A

Technique: Metal clay properties (base metal), texturing, construction, sealing techniques, attaching a bail.

Bring to class: One 50 – 100-gram jars of Hadar’s clay (Quick Fire Copper, Quick Fire Rose Bronze, Quick Fire Bronze) or 50 – 100 gram package of Prometheus pre-mixed clay (white or red bronze, or copper), available at BeadFX. IMPORTANT: Hadar’s and Prometheus clays cannot be mixed! Bring metal clay tools, if you have them. If not, they will be supplied at BeadFX.
