Sculptural beadmaking and Glassblowing Techniques with visiting instructor Karina Guevin

collage-of-photos-700wCourse outline: During this three day workshop with Canadian lampwork artist and instructor Karen Guevin, students will learn a variety of advance sculptural beadmaking, glassblowing and sculpting techniques using soda lime glass.

Using mini blowpipes, students will learn how to master the perfect jack line, bubble and pontie. The main challenge will be to change the shape and to have more control of their piece. How to make miniature vessels will also be covered. Students will also learn sculptural beadmaking and off-mandrel sculpting. We will also demystify the Venetian sculpting techniques, working with solid and hollow forms.

Skill level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Must have lampwork experience

Technique: Sculptural beadmaking (on and off-mandrel), glassblowing

Bring to class: (glasses and basic tools are available in the studio)

  • lampworking glasses
  • personal lampworking tools (tweezers, picks, etc.)
  • Jacks (will be available from BeadFX for pre-purchase; details coming soon)
  • Mini blowpipes (will be available from BeadFX for pre-purchase; details coming soon)
  • If you have favourite colours of glass, please bring it along! Otherwise, glass is included in the class fee.
  • Writing materials, etc.
  • As these are full day classes, please bring your lunch. Coffee and cold drinks will be available.

Early Bird Offer! Register on or before April 1 for only $650 + HST. As of April 2, the registration fee will go to the regular price of $700.

How to Register:

  • You may register by phone at (416) 751-1911, or in-person at our store.
  • Payment or a deposit is required in advance for registration.
  • Some classes have associated kit fees, please check class details to see where applicable. Some kit fees are payable to the store, some to the instructor and may be cash only in that case.
  • For some studio classes, those using fire-breathing torches and fast spinny things a waiver must be signed acknowledging you have experience or training in their use, and we will ensure you have training to work safely!
  • Some classes have age requirements. Students MUST be 18 years or older in order to be able to take any of our lampworking, soldering, fusing, and some metalsmithing classes.

Class Cancellation Policy:

  • If you need to cancel, please let us know 5 days prior to the class. Cancellations made later than that will forfeit the class deposit or fee.
  • We may re-schedule or cancel classes if we do not receive the minimum number of bookings, or in case of bad weather or instructor illness. In this case, you will be notified and the fees will be refunded or issued as store credit.
  • No refunds, credits or cancellations will be permitted for any class with a visiting celebrity instructor. Student substitutions may be made at the time of cancellation as long as prerequisite requirements are met, otherwise students on existing waiting lists will be contacted.
