Surf ‘n Turf Lampwork Beads with visiting instructor Joy Munshower (3 days)

November 17 @ 10:00 am - November 19 @ 5:00 pm

Cdn $755. - Cdn $780.00

Course outline: Students will be sculpting bas-relief style horse beads, hedgehog beads and various sea-life beads. Students will learn to sculpt these animals from both photo reference and instructor-drawn examples. Students will learn how to break down the shapes of these animals and how to apply those shapes to sculpting in a bas-relief or low-relief style on a base bead. An overview of various animal anatomies will be covered to help you create realistic and lifelike low-relief animal and sea-life beads. Students will also learn how to use specialty dental tools to facilitate and ease sculpting in a low-relief style as well as 3-D subject matter. Some photo and diagram reference will be provided to the students to better illustrate shape, anatomy and composition breakdown.

This is a three-day class and will take place Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19; 10:00am – 5:00pm each day.

Day 1: Sealife: An organic nugget exercise using glass shorts will be our warm-up exercise to teach students the technique of a walking-twist. Students will then apply this technique to creating realistic ocean or water base-beads. Students will also be taught how to sculpt a Jellyfish, a Manatee, and a Nautilus upon the water/ocean base bead. A Crab will also be taught/demoed at the end of day.

Days 2 and 3: Land Animals: A variety of animals will be taught to teach several different glass application and sculpting techniques. Students will learn how to create several animals including the horse, 3D hedgehog, and bas-relief octopus on the second and third day of the class.

Skill level: This workshop is for intermediate and advanced students.

Prerequisite: Must be beyond the basics of lampworking.

Technique: Bas-relief sculptural lampworking.

Bring to class: A complete list of tools needed will be available prior to the class.
