Vessel No. 1 with visiting instructor Nancy Cain

March 24 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Cdn $155.00

Course outline: Vessel No. 1 was the inspiration piece for my Bead & Button Show Master Class on engineering 3-dimensional vessel design. It is a hollow piece with interior embellishments for a visual surprise as well as creating additional support. Vessel No. 1 is an elegant, statement piece with chain gracing the bottom.

Design, balance and proportion as well as structure techniques are discussed throughout the piece and understanding 3D peyote work. The 3 rings are vertically stacked with 6mm pearl internal structure support if needed while the bottom ring is surfaced embellished. Swinging chain drops around a central crystal fringe strand. This is complex looking but not complex in structure that is fun and relatively quick to make.

Skill level: Intermediate/Advanced

Prerequisite: Tubular Peyote

Technique: Peyote and embellishment

Bring to class: Color breakdowns are simply suggestions

  • A – Primary color of vessel rings – Frosted or matte beads work well
  • B – Bright or contrasting accent color – dominate accent for the entire piece
  • C – Similar or complementing color to A – shiny, matte or transparent – sits between the rings of the vessel

Seed Beads – For best results, use very round, consistent seed beads. Square-ish beads don’t work.

  • 2 grams – 15B – accent color throughout
  • 1.5 grams – 11A – matches the main color of the rings
  • 3 grams – 11B – accent color throughout
  • 5 grams – 11C – this color sits between the rings
  • 7 grams – 8A – main color of the rings
  • 2 grams – 8B – accent color throughout
  • 3 grams – Delica B color – size 11 – matches your accent color

  • 21 – 6mm pearls or round crystals – 18 sit inside the three rings.
  • Optional – instead of 3 of the 6mm pearls you can substitute 3- 8mm rondelles in the bottom big center fringe.
  • 200 – 220- 3mm pearls or other combination of pearls and crystals for the rope and other embellishment
  • 81 – 4mm rondelles – accenting the rope and the vessel- you can use Swarovski or Czech
  • 4 – 6mm rondelles – two on the rope and two on the bottom fringe

Chain or other fringe beads: 24 strands of 4″ each. I use about 20 (.5m) each of five different link styles no larger than a 2×6 and as small as I can get a needle eye through.

Crimps: 8 – 2×2 crimps and 8 – 3×3 crimp covers

Thread: One G Thread, 6# Fireline and Fine .014 Softflex

Needles: Size 11 and 12

Tools: Crimper, wire cutter

  • Magnification if required
  • Scissors
  • Lunch; coffee and cold drinks will be available

It is recommended that you order any large quantities of rondelles/donuts on-line with instructions that payment/pick-up to be made in-store on the date of the class. Please give sufficient time to allow the order to be assembled (3 – 5 days business days if possible).
