Slow Stitching, No Bitching!

While you’re slow stitching, it’s almost impossible to start bitching! Okay, perhaps I’m using a sweeping generalization here, but don’t you think that it could be possible? I belong to many slow beading and stitching Facebook groups, and they share an awful lot of very nice people!! There’s obviously a wide range of talent levels, but everyone seems to appreciate the work that the others do. No, not everyone comments, or even “Likes” the posts, but neither do they add snide remarks. Of course, I don’t review every post, for every group that I’m in (I’ve joined too many), but …

Wire Dreams: To support us!

What do you think of, when I say “wire dreams”? No, I don’t mean that really, really comfortable underwire bra!! But what else? When I think wire dreams, I’m considering one of the main supporting characters, in jewelery design. Of course, as a mixed-up media artist, I’ve been known to use my wire in unconventional ways, but I do still use it conventionally as well. What are head pins and eye pins made of? Wire of course! Don’t you think that making the perfect wrapped or simple loop is what dreams are really made of? Where would our earrings be, …

December 2018 Bead Mat Update: Greetings from this part of the world!

My December 2018 bead mat update came way too soon! How can it possibly be December 26th? Rats!! I’m not sure that I accomplished as much as I wanted to this year!!! Pillow from a friend. Nice and festive! Aren’t the goals we set for ourselves crazy? Sometimes they work, and at other times, they don’t. However, one thing that I do know, is that we never have time to do everything we want to do! The older we get, the seemingly busier we get, and that isn’t about to change!!!! So, we might as well just go with the …

Colour Crazy: The story continues!

I guess that you could say that I’m colour crazy! Not to mention, that I’m not in the least shy about it!! Okay, I did just buy a new black coat, and come to think of it, a new black vest as well. But black is such a practical colour for winter! After I finished my blog post from last week, I realized that my colour crazy story was not finished! I showed you some of my first Bead Journals, but didn’t show you the rest of that series (I made twelve of them). So, I’ll just finish them off, …

Colour Play – All the Way!

It’s only going to get colder, so colour play is extremely important at this time of the year! Why do we need dark and dismal, when we could take a bath in colour instead? I know it’s a strange topic for a post, but it’s something that popped into my head this morning! If you look at my wardrobe, you’ll see a lot of black, grey, and navy blue (but mostly denim these days). Is this a leftover from the corporate years (not the denim), or perhaps a personal choice? I love colour, but I don’t wear it that much, …

November 2018 Bead Mat Update: Texture & Contrast!

When talking about my November 2018 Bead Mat Update, I think more about the differences, and less about similarities! I love techniques! Yes I’ve told you that before, but this time my words are matched by my actions. Do you want to see? First up on my November 2018 Bead Mat update, is the bezelled cabochon that I talked about in my last blog post. I lifted the next two photos from that post!! Now here’s the update! I beaded some more, then glued the backing on, so all that’s left to do is bead the edging. But wait! What …

Bezelled Cabochons: What are they?

In the last week, I decided to spend a little quality time with bezelled cabochons? To bead, or not to bead, that is the question! Of course, that’s not really the question, as I have no intention of not beading!!! Yes, I could surround it with a silver, or copper bezel, but for me that would be too much work!! I know! Working with little tiny beads, isn’t really work, is it? I’ve had a love/hate relationship with bezelled cabochons for years. Take this one, for example: I probably started this piece at least ten years ago. A plus-sized Howlite …

Bead-A-Muse: What is this?

What do you think of the term Bead-a-Muse? Or perhaps I should call it Craft-a-Muse? I was actually thinking of writing about collecting beads, in this blog post (and believe me, I do!). However, my ideas tend to be fluid, so somehow collecting ended up as a post about Bead-a-Muse. When I Googled Bead-a-Muse, it came up with a variety of very different images, including dolls, some beaded objects, and a collection of miscellaneous images. Not exactly what I was looking for!!! Here’s my first muse – Fibrella!! Some have even called her my alter-ego! Could it be our inner …

Things that go bump in the night!

What do you think of, when I talk about things that go bump in the night? It’s Halloween on this side of the world, so definitely a current topic! Image – Wikipidia Okay, maybe not everything goes bump, but there are definitely some scary things out there. Especially on this particular night!! Ghoulies and ghosties, and not to forget creepies and crawlies!!! My skin gets goose bumps, just thinking about things that go bump in the night!!!! Do you suppose there’s a beading genre that celebrates this particular holiday? No, I don’t mean the Mexican Day of the Dead, because …

October 2018 Bead Mat Update: This and that!

My October 2018 Bead Mat Update was almost a bust! Once again, I don’t have that many finished projects to show. Sigh! What’s up with that? Then I started to list everything I’ve accomplished (err, purchased) in the month. That’s where it all began. I spent Thanksgiving up north, with family! During that period, I did manage to re-string a necklace, and finish another of my Stitch Meditations (#97). The necklace is a combination of Czech seed beads, and some Rose Gold plated Hematite. I loved the combination, when I spotted it on the wrist of one of our customers! …
